Lurcher / Greyhound Puppy Collars

roseyposeysmum · 23/11/2011 12:57

I have been handrearing 4 lurcher pups for the last 5 weeks after there mum was dumped outside the vets where i work and rejected her pups.

They are healthy gorgeous little boys and are doing really well after there bad start. They have got to the stage where i want to start putting collars on for when i rehome two of them (2 are staying with me) but i have only ever had adult Greyhounds and Lurchers before.

But i am having real problems finding puppy collars for this breed, and i don't want to scare them by putting something to heavey etc on. Somebody has suggested cat collars to get them used to them.

What has anybody else done with a lurcher pup regarding a collar ?

Damn you bats! I had my hounds collar all picked out and I just had to click that link! Angry now I'm in love with the Mr Tumble style martingale collars!

Shock Spaghetti

collar - in singular!

You are seriously not just buying one collar?

I know your new grey only has one neck, but he'll need:
A lounging round collar
.An outdoor, don't mind if it gets muddy collar,
Something a bit glitzy for the weekend.
A Sunday collar
A Christmas collar..

The list goes on. Time to get your credit card out.Grin

A Halloween collar
An Easter collar
A fancy a bit of a change collar
A winter collar
A summer collar......

You get the picture Grin

I've never seen those tiny collars before. I normally have to get whippy's made to measure. I am begining to think she is some sort of abnormally small lurcher. She is definately not a whippet. She is the same size as a large cat Hmm. Like a forever puppy.

feeling not felling (gawd sakes)

I cannot buy hundreds of collars and coats! We just don't have the space for another extra large wardrobe! He's limited to 5 collars, not including the one he comes with or his tag collar. So 7 altogether. And coats are expensive so he can stick with the one he comes with for now.

LordOfTheFlies · 24/11/2011 22:47

7 is a good start Grin

Ikea do some nice hooks in the shape of a dogs bottom and tail. My DCs have 2 for their coats.

Ask the rescue if you have to keep his house collar on all the time (with ID disc).

There's a Sad missing dog thread on here. Looks like the dog escaped from a walk or the house. Just been rehomed and very scared and lost.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 25/11/2011 03:02

I know I saw it :( I hope he's found soon!

Our nearest ikea is about 50 miles away. Long way to go for some hooks! Think I'll leave his house collar on all the time, regardless of what the rescue say. I'm going to take it with me when we pick him up too, and put it on before we take him home.

Sorry. Hehehehehe. I've spent a lot of my disposable income on collars and coats since greyhound came to stay.

In case you're wondering this is the best place to get outdoor greyhound coats in my opinion. Shipping to uk is a little costly thoughdog coats
