I found this useful to see what to look out for if a dog gets bloat:

Thanks for this, Feesh. It's also worth saying this is a particular problem for deep chested large breeds like greyhounds, Great Danes etc.

It's a risk for my Doodle too. He has a special bowl so he doesn't gulp his food down.

I've just watched it, and it's really quite distressing to see that poor dog. However, the video is excellent - really shows you clearly what to look for, and happily the dog featured survived. Definitely one to bookmark. Thanks again, Feesh.

Bloat is the biggest emergency a dog owner can face, if you suspect bloat don't wait one moment ring vet (preferably as someone else is drving you there) and warn them ahead of your arrival, and discuss stitching stomach to the side to prevent twisting again.

I have a friend who has just gone through this with her standard poodle, he is 4 and recovered, touch and go and took a while for him to settle again. I have also friends who've lost standards to bloat and a doberman. It is DEADLY..

Thanks for this, feesh. My dog is part malamute (and big at that) so bloat is a risk for him. The video is really informative.

Oh, the poor boy. Thanks for posting that - I've had a couple of panicky moments with my hounds, but (thank god) it's always been greed rather than bloat. It's really helpful to see what the signs are.
