I have a Vizsla (1yr) and a Cavalier (7yrs) and currently feed them whatever is on offer @ PAH Blush (but skint!)

On the JRT thread I read that Bakers is shittola - which food would you recommend I stick to in future?

Thanks in advance

I've used Burns, James Wellbeloved in the past but have switched to Milburns salmon and potato (works for runny tummy and itchy skin) from Pet Supermarket plus about 1:6 Nature's Diet or home made. I divide a tray and separate and freeze and freeze homemade too. A friend swears by Oscars, a franchise, her dog like mine is 9.
Milburns is considerably cheaper because not advertised and only available from Pet S. Lasts for ages. I have their Turkey and Rice as a back up as they can get bored, (wouldn't you). I've switched the cat to Milburns too.
My dogs love porridge but you can't feed a dog on just that but, like pasta or rice a cheap filler and calms an over-excitable dog.
Pets at Home, Technical and Wafcol all do fish based kibble, they can whiff though.

Free samples are available from suppliers, good petshops, trainers or behaviourists. Seek their advice. You can often hoover samples up at country shows, charity events, etc. Avoid anything highly coloured, why does dog food need to be bright green or red? See if there is one your dog got potty over.

Arden Grange has beet pulp in it. Some people say that a good food doesn't need any fillers. There's conflicting advice on whether beet pulp is good or not.

Arden is off our list as it has Brewers yeast. Staffy boy's an awkward mutt!

We feed our medium sized dog with this (prize choice frozen mince), which we mix with rice, a few veg and a bit of fish oil. It works out at about half the price of even the cheapest tins and his coat is so much shinier since we started him on it about 3 months ago, plus he quivers with excitement whilst waiting for his dinner - he never did that when he was on processed food.

Skinner salmon and rice here tis cheap and of a good quality, my lab has one of the shineyest coat ever!! I buy mine from Vet uk at just over 23 pounds a sack here delivery is free to (need to spend £18).

We use NatureDiet - really good food, agrees with everyone, used it for tewlve years without any problems, and if you order it direct from the manufacturer rather than buying it from the shops it's quite a bit cheaper. we've always had excellent customer service from them as well.

Another fan of prize choice here. I particularly like their poultry necks. I feed them raw because of the chicken bone. The crunching when they eat it can be a little disturbing, particularly if, like us, you have vegetarians in the house!

Dog is very happy and healthy on raw feed, and poo is very small and non smelly, just a little stick of chalk Grin

i used to feed naturediet to our staffie who suffers from colitis. unfortunately after a few years we had problems with it - lots of the packs were off and many, many more were a bit iffy - so we switched to nature's harvest which is a similar food. no problems with that one so far, find it better than naturediet.

I use healthy paws for my very loopy lurcher who loves it! and i use chudleys lite for my other big lug, (mainly because he is very lazy prone to put on weight).

I don't know how much i spend on food, i think healthy paws is £48 per bag and chudleys is £24 per bag. The trouble is both foods either have to be done mail order or i have two very long drives to out nearest supplier.

Thank you all so much!

All our 9 dogs are on thiswww.symplypetfoods.co.uk/ingredients.php
We wean all the pups on it as well and have never had any problems. As our dogs our showing we need them to look at there best all the time and we were spending a fortune on supplements trying to improve there coat etc before we changed .
