I posted the other day about my puppy being scared of other dogs but we seem to have reached new heights today! After a trip to the vets last night to be microchipped he got scared of a massive poodle and was trying to bury his face in my husbands coat. While there he also had his second injection and we were told again to introduce him to dogs that had been fully vaccinated on our property. Following that advice my mother in laws black Labrador came round to see him and they played for ages, and he seemed to get over his fear. Woke up this morning though and our neighbours dog that scared him previously started barking so he ran in and weed on the carpet. This has happened twice today. I'm not sure whether it's the dog scaring him or he's just a bit under the weather after having his injections and being chipped at the vets? He seems very cuddly today and just wants to lie right next to me. He's slept for most of the day too but I put this down to him being worn out from playing with buddy last night

Ah bless him. He is just a baby so take things very gently, he is showing you that he is apprehensive and you need to be able to take things at his pace.

The more positive encounters he has the better so if he loves the lab, let him interact with him several times. Only introduce him to calm, quiet, "steady" dogs for a while. He needs to build up his confidence. If possible try to avoid all contact with the neighbours dog (not sure how this can be managed but it will make a lot of difference to you pup).

If he does show fear it is vital that you do not reasure him but act confidently and show him their is nothing to fear. However saying that do not take him into situations that will be too difficult at this stage - if you get it wrong just move away, ignore him and carry on being up beat.

If you take him to puppy classes try and find one that does little off lead play with the puppies as at the moment that does sound too hard for him. However a puppy class that has all the dogs together but controlled and on lead and has monitored meet and greets between one or two dogs at a time will be fine. It is worth putting in a lot of effort into this now as it can be difficult to sort out if the dog becomes very fearful

Thank you for the advice. We're off to puppy classes a week on Tuesday so hopefully that will help a lot. We'll take him to play with the lab a couple of times a week too. Thank you

I've had a really positive experience today! My Aunty stopped by after walking her springer cross today on the off chance of seeing how Barney would react and then her not staying if he got worked up but he ended up having a lovely time and they played together for an hour! I think the problem may just be the neighbours dog! We're going to take him to the vets every week just to use the scales in the waiting room so he gets used to that too

Fantastic that is great news the more experiences like that the better.

Pop into the vet give him a treat and leave again he will soon love the vets too!

It sounds like he is lucky to find someone to give him the time now and to give him confidence.
