Hi

I have a 13yr old ex-working lab x collie girl who has gotten really slow and elderly over the last 12 mths or so. She is blind in one eye (cataract) and the sight is failing in the other. Going deaf as well - can hear some low noises but we have to shout to get a reaction from her. Have had her to the vet who has checked her over and apart from the failing hearing and sight and a bit of arthritis shes basically healthy and happy.

She lives out by her choice - if I try to bring her in she will literally try and chew through the door to get out again - has been the same since a young dog so she has her bed in the hay barn and grows a huge coat each winter!

Problem is that she is now barking at nothing - have put it down to the fact that she can't see or hear so well so is reacting to any thing so that she lets us know something is about. Fair enough but its all the time - no complaints yet from the neighbours but its just a matter of time - shes driving me up the walls with the contstant noise - I do check if theres anyone in the yard just in case - had quite a few farm thefts in the area so its best to be sure. She will stop if I go out to her but then she starts again 5 mins later.

Anyone had to deal with this and wdyd? tia

anyone? Actually monitered her today - barked 12 times in 1hr at absolutely nothing - I went out and checked each time - NOTHING Hmm

Anyway that works out that she barking every 5 mins - I don't want to listen to that and I'm sure my neighbours aren't going to put up with the noise for much longer Sad
