Doghouse etiquette?

Hello fellow dog-owners.

I've been lurking and had an occasional post, just wondered....you all seem as scatty as me about your dogs, but I keep going to reply to posts and stopping myself as I think you will either a) think I'm a loon or b) give me a good ol' MN flaming as I am admitting to doing something one should never do with their dog (I'm thinking....letting her sleep with me a few times a week because she's so snuggly and I'm recently single and it's just nice!)

So, for all the old-timers, what are the must and must-not's of the doghouse?

Oh, and my dog is a lab-mutt cross aged 5 and beautiful :

Well I for one will not flame you for sleeping with your dog because I've done it lots - not that I ever have of course but 'a friend' of mine has! Wink

Seriously though, why shouldn't you do that? Never heard that before and intend to ignore that diktat.

Etiquette - to sum up the last few days - don't bark too loudly, NEVER bite and the 'you MUST get a rescue Staffy / why the fuck does everyone recommend a rescue Staffy??' debate is way more contentious than WOHM vs SAHM or BF vs FF!

I dont have much choice about mine..... he just lumbers upstairs opens the door with a headbutt of the handle and a well aimed shove with the head. Tip toes (yes really) across the wood flooring and gracefully and slowly slides onto the bottom of my bed. He freezes immediately if you move one muscle.

Once he is homebase he snuggles his nose under the covers and occasionally licks a toe.

I dont have the heart to move him. Although I do get a bit stiff have to sleep like a giant fat Y shape.

I remember my dog used to snuggle under the duvet on occasions when I was single and my feet were cold Blush

I also remember the first time dh stayed the night, and the dog felt so bereft (and pissed off) he went under the bed and threw up! Talk about good communication Grin

Don't worry, you won't get 'flamed' for anything, certainly not by me....and your lab cross mutt is almost as adorable as mine: welcome Smile

the only reason I don't sleep with my dogs is because they snore. Mind you, if it gets really cold this winter... [eyes huge travel softcrate]

when we first got our last dog she used to sleep with us too! we stopped as I got pregnant with dd1 and we thought it probably wasn't safe to cosleep with a baby and a dog....

DooinMeCleanin · 09/11/2011 22:56

Of of mine sleeps upstairs with us. She did from the first day we got her and she is dreaded rescue dog not a puppy Shock. Not a staff though. She gives me a goodnight kiss every night. She comes to bed after me with DH. They're both banned from coming up while I am still awake because they both snore. The dog is allowed to kiss me goodnight. DH gets twatted round the chops if he tries it Grin

I much prefer him sleeping on the bed to the wooden floor.... nothing like waking up thinking you have mice to a twitching dog scrabbling about on the floor mid midnight rabbit chase

Love the dog in tie picture :)

As long as your dog is well looked after , behaves reasonably well in public then it doesn't matter what he does at home.

I said I would never let my dog on the sofa but she was has been so poorly of late with her eye that the sifa was one place that she looked comfortable and bale to rest her head with buster collar on the arm .

Now I can't get her off ! but she is lovely to cuddle up with in the evening - all 28kg of lab Grin

I could talk about my dog all day long, there are few people who share my geekish-ness (I've made a new word up!)

Rhinestone I stay away from contentious subjects - have been on other forums where the BF/FF and working/SAHM debate has reared it's head! I love staffies - they are truly mental and also very lovely if properly trained and cared for (well, same as any dog really!)

Signet Grin at 'Y shaped' position in bed - it's either that or I'm clinging to the end of the bed as DD has had a nightmare so climbs in, then the dog lies at the bottom and the cat sleeps on my shoulder so I can't move!

All of you have typed something that has made me think 'oooo Pip does that' ha!

I look forward to many dog chats! (oh and I also have a cat and a kitten and am equally potty about them, so I'll be here and over at the Litter Tray!)

Thank you all for your welcome

Smile
