By which I mean - Dogsy was bought for my DS2 by ex-DH last xmas. DS2 got bored about last Feb - I expected this and was prepared for Dogsy to become mine before I agreed that ex-DH could buy him for DS2.

At first I went throught the motions, fed him, walked him, cuddled him, slept with him. But I felt a bit, not irritated, just seperate. Then I grew to adore him. It took a long time, I would not say I was a "dog" person.

But now I love Dogsy, I totally love him. He cheers me up, he looked after me when I was sick, he licks my feet dry after a bath, he keeps me company when I am on the loo. I just think he is amazing.

I hold up his brush and he leaps up for a groom, he loves it. He thinks he is well fancy and only eats Cesar.

He is still a pup/dog - I cant imagine him as an old man.

Also - what about people who rehome, I couldnt rest not knowing where Dogsy was and who with.

I didnt know that I would like him this much.

What I'd like to know is why your dog is sometimes called BoBo and sometimes called Dogsy?

Sotiredofwakinguptired · 06/11/2011 00:45

Always!
I got my furry friend from battersea, he cost me £80. Four years later we decided to emigrate to Australia. Do you think we could rehome him? No! £2500 it cost us to get him there but he is now happily chasing kangaroos!

DogsBestFriend · 06/11/2011 00:47

So glad to hear that you're happier now, Whatever. :)

Will my dogs be with me for life? Damn right they will, I'd kill and die for them.

DooinMeCleanin · 06/11/2011 00:47

Hell and high water could not seperate me from my terrier. If/when I leave DH I would consider leaving Whippy with him, but only with him I could never rehome her to someone who loved her less than DH and it's not possible anyone could love her more.

I'd only consider it, though. I'm not sure if I could part with her. We might have to have shared custody of her. Seeing as she is dd1's dog, techincally, and we will be sharing the children Whippy could stay with the children. He's not getting his hands on my terrier.

SacreLao · 06/11/2011 00:56

Nothing would seperate me from my dogs!!

I get so sick of these people who have to rehome their dogs because they move house etc.

I'd live in a bloody box before re-homing my dogs, they are like my children.

I often say i'd rehome my son before my dogs Grin but to be fair he is nosier / messier / smellier and more hard work than the dogs.

I couldn't even bear to rehome one of my rodents never mind the dogs, who would listen to my random utterings on walks?

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 01:04

Katharine Clifton - My dog's name in real life is Bodie but I call him BoBo. He was already named when I got him and he knew his name so I couldn't change it. On Mumsnet I thought I should go for anonymity and call him Dogsy. If I got another dog I would name him Doggy! I think it's a great name for a Dog.

OP posts:
whatever117 · 06/11/2011 01:10

DogsBestFriend - I am happier - I think I just needed a moan. The moan aloud on Mumsnet and kind of saying to my Dad "bloody dog" really crystallised that I do love BoBo. I don't think I realised it before - does that sound weird?

I have started appreciating him more and now I love him. I do not know whether he loves me, I am not sure whether dogs do. But he certainly wants to snug and hug all the time, I love a lap dog. And if he is scared he is glued to me, so he must trust me.

I love your post OP! Certainly sums up that surprise feeling of how much love you have for the little being. Made me smile.

LeBOF · 06/11/2011 01:33

If you got another dog, he'd have to be Doyle, surely? Grin

My dogs are family- they are here to stay.

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 01:37

Blondered - but it is a surprise - I genuinely am surprised and delighted. It is like loving a shitting, crying, puking baby. BoBo is a right laugh, he plays with the common staffies, then humps the poshos dogs, he swims in the Thames, he stands still for his baths after he rolls in shit.

For my part - I sleep in a bed that has gravel and hairs in it. I go to work with hairs all over my clothes and I eat food with dog hair on it and pick it off without thinking about it.

Lebof - BoBo's brother was called Doyle - I wish I had got them both!

Do you think I should get another dog? One of us is always with BoBo - we take him to work or work around him, we leave him alone to go to the shops etc but he is a people dog. He loves to play with dogs when he take him out for a "w" though.

I just think, he is a terrier, mid calf height. I would not want a dog that I might be scared of as I am not experienced and things are so good with Bobo that I am scared of jinxing it.

I've got a terrier, Pepper, and recently got a gorgeous little Cavalier puppy, Pickle. They are great together- lots of work, sure, but I absolutely love seeing them run round madly together: it is a sight that never fails to raise a smile. They are company for each other when I'm not around, which is lucky, because Pickle would spontaneously combust if she was left on her own- she is the ultimate Velcro dog Grin

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 01:58

How old are your dogs? Are Cavs different to terriers?

OP posts:
LeBOF · 06/11/2011 02:10

Pepper is five now, and a typical terrier- a very doggy dog, IYKWIM. She'll get a scent and is OFF! She gets into a zone if she spots a cat or squirrel, and ots like she cant even hear me, but otherwise her recall is pretty good. She is great at guarding the house and barks if anyone knocks at the door, which is lucky, as my doorbell has been broken for months Grin.

Pickle is a totally different kettle of fish. She is a total little Love Dog, and is completely motivated by affection and soppiness. She follows me everywhere, is far too easy to spoil rotten, and I'm seriously considering having her assessed to be a Pets As Therapy dog, because she is so utterly sweet and gentle that everybody who meets her just melts, even the burliest of men Grin.

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 02:21

Ah - how sweet! BoBo is JRT x Border T and is a total terrier - he patrols the garden! We have an urban fox who messes with the bins and tries to live in the shed. BoBo ain't having it!

BoBo has wonderful recall - I didn't know recall was a prob until I met a woman crying in the woods - she had been looking for her dog for 5 hours. BoBo is also a LoveDog - hence the gravel and hairs in the bed!

But I would like a REAL lapdog - like a bichon frise or a maltese - a lovely little girl who I can put ribbons on! And a Hello Kitty collar.

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 02:36

Ahhh - I dont know how to do that. Bobo looks so much like Pepper! How can I do I Bobo's foto to you?

OP posts:
LeBOF · 06/11/2011 02:37

I made a twitpic account, but you can use Flickr, or go to your profile and add a shot there- I'd love to see Bobo!

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 02:46

I have sent you pics of BoBo - if you get them - if you would like to add me on MSN and lets chat about dogs!!!!

OP posts:
whatever117 · 06/11/2011 02:47

Did you get them?

OP posts:
LeBOF · 06/11/2011 02:49

Wow- they are really similar, aren't they? Grin

I'm not on MSN, but you can PM me any time.

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 02:52

they really are similar!

OP posts:
whatever117 · 06/11/2011 02:54

what is pepper - do you know - where did you get her/him?

OP posts:
LeBOF · 06/11/2011 03:04

I think she's a patterdale/border cross. I got her really unwisely from a relative stranger- my alarm bells went when we visited their home to see her, but I just couldn't leave her there. It definitely wasn't a reputable breeder. Having said that, she has been a really great family pet.

Bobo looks like there is definitely some border in there.

whatever117 · 06/11/2011 03:33

BoBo was the same. Ex-DH got him from someone's backyard basically, he was 12 weeks and with his brother. I don't know how long he had been away from his mother. Do dogs care about that stuff - I don't know? Anyway, DS2 and ex-DH selected him from between his brother and him.

I called the breeder after a couple of weeks and said how great BoBo was and he said his brother had gone to a mate of his. I think it was just a one-off and he had a couple of puppies to sell. He was £100 and had had 2 injections and was wormed and flead so I think it was a "must do" rather than a profit thing.
