And I'm not going to apologise for it.

OP posts:
MrsSnaplegs · 30/08/2011 19:11

Val where in the south - we are south hants and it's still ok here not hot but dry and warm enough just for a light jacketGrin

MrsSnaplegs · 30/08/2011 19:12

Oh and do I get double points in bingo I have a KC reg Rhodesian ridgeback who is rehomed with usWink

Vallhala · 30/08/2011 19:21

Me, my 2 rescued GSDs and my rescued, formerly abused Lab live in East Anglia, MrsSnapLegs. I've both friends and family in S Hants who tell me that they're walking in the Forest in little more than T shirts. Envy

Well, and jeans too of course.

And undies.

And boots.

Or possibly trainers....

:o

That reminds me, I must buy a new waterproof jacket and a new pair of wellies or walking boots.

Tempted by the Merrell Wakefield that S&B were raving about but I dunno... I may plump for another Barbour.

Oh, decisions, decisions....

thefirstMrsDeVere · 30/08/2011 19:49

My dog has a pink quilted jacket

Kill me now Grin

ThefirstmrsDV my dog has a coat for the winter as well as she gets very chilly from October onwards, when we camp with an open fire she almost sits on itGrin

MrsSnaplegs · 30/08/2011 19:54

Val lidl have some nice wells and stylish macs on offer this week, a bit fancy for walking the dogs but cheap enough it doesn't matter!

Vallhala · 30/08/2011 20:14

Thanks for that, MrsSnapLegs, much appreciated. :)

I'm going to leave a spare set of wellies and waterproofs at the rescue so I don't forget them have to lug them with me whenever I stay up there. I should think that Lidl prices will allow me to do that without breaking the bank, cheers.

PacificDogwood · 30/08/2011 20:16

Merrell Wakefield is fab - bestest rain coat I have ever owned. Albeit with freakishly long sleeves. Proper water proof, none of that poncy 'shower resistent ladida' nonsense. Highly recommended. And I don't 'do' S&B Grin.

Vallhala · 30/08/2011 20:28

Long sleeves are good - long arms run in my DMs side of the family. And no, before you say it, that does not mean that I or that side of the family are knuckle-draggers. :)

We leave that honour to my ex-husband and his family. :o

MrsSnaplegs · 30/08/2011 20:59

Ooh Val we are also doing something for rescues this weekend! My DH has just informed me the landrover event we are soon this weekend is for lurcher rescue so we're now hoping for rain so it is nice and muddy Grin

Scuttlebutter · 30/08/2011 21:18

Grin at Val's extra long arms.

I find Lands End very good for dog walking coats, jackets and fleeces. Their Squall jacket is great for really wet, cold, horrible weather - very windproof. Have a pair of their light walking shoes which are great for summer dog walking and have just ordered a nice pair of stable boots for the winter - I just can't get on with wellies at all.

DH has Rohan jacket and over trousers - he likes them. Fortunately, as they are a nice dull olive green colour, he doesn't look too much like a rambler, which is a relief.

I have mixed views about Barbours - it's a bit like a marriage - you have to be in it for the long haul - they have their faults but at bottom you know you can rely on them. I had one for many years, but my car got stolen with Barbour in the boot and though the car was recovered, the jacket was gone. To be honest, I wish it had been the other way round. Didn't have the heart to break in a new one.

Vallhala · 30/08/2011 21:21

Agreed, Barbours have to be old and comfy. New just isn't right!

Love the saying "I can't get on with wellies". My Mum uses "I can't get on with.... ". It always makes me imagine her having rows with inanimate objects!

Will have a look at Land's End, I hadn't thought of that, thank you. :)

I keep an eye on the clearance section of their website - it often has some really good bargains, especially if you are not too bothered about colours.
My current fleece is a sort of lilac/lavender colour which would probably give S & B apoplexy as it's both a fleece Shock and not a "directional" colour Wink. In fact, when wearing it, I look like exactly what i am, a dumpy middle aged dog walker Grin but am toasty warm and very happy.

I will now think of Val's postings being read aloud in my head by the soothing tones of Arthur Lowe - now there's something to conjure with...

Vallhala · 30/08/2011 21:45

Ah! Arthur Lowe... :)

And let's not forget the late, great Mr Le Mesurier! :)

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 30/08/2011 22:14

aha the fleece made me laugh out loud. I went out with the dogs this evening, up on the hills, had a black fleece (only slightly better than a lilac one) a pair of old jeans and hair scraped back, old Saddlecraft wellies - highly recommend these, neoprene lined so v comfy and warm in winter unlike Hunters which are freezing ALL the time.

Anyway, caught sight of myself as I got back home and thought WTF?

I am also doing something this weekend for charity, also in SE.
Will take one of my dogs and spend some dosh while there to help. Actually all the family are coming but only 1 of the dogs... unless I can convince DH to bring both.

Wonder if we are all going to the same thing in the same area?

MrsSnaplegs · 31/08/2011 15:38

coffee
Our event involves lots of Landrovers getting muddy in aid of rescue Lurchers and is in Hampshire.

TheMonster · 31/08/2011 15:43

I love my 'potential child maulers'.

midori1999 · 01/09/2011 21:22

My dog walking coat is either a bright orange waterproof of unkown origin that DH bought me, or a very warm and cosy but not waterproof Rab jacket.

Currently in Scotland where it is still warm enough to not wear a coat for dog walking, although really I need one so I can use the pockets for poo bags, treats, balls etc. Bumbags are Ok in the show ring where everyone has one, but not for dog walks, where they make me look like a lunatic... Grin

My 'potential child mauler' couldn't be further from it, he's more likely to lick a child to death than anything else...

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 02/09/2011 09:15

right, who mentioned landsend - obviously I went for a nosy on clearance and ended up buying stuff.

I have 2 dog walking winter coats - all waterproof, all with lots of pockets and treats in. Oh and mud splatters, lets not forget the never ending mud splatter.

Ephiny · 02/09/2011 09:39

I've got a very light/thin waterproof jacket (the 'outer shell' type) which is good as you can wear it just over a t-shirt for summer showers and don't get too warm, or with a nice cosy fleece underneath in the colder weather.

What I do need this year is a proper pair of boots for the snow - last year I made do with waterproof trousers over walking shoes, but did tend to get snow getting inbetween when it got deep enough. Child-mauler loves his snowy walks, he goes like a daft puppy when he gets outside and finds it's snowed, so I expect to be out there a lot!

Scuttlebutter · 02/09/2011 10:46

Ah yes, pockets. Every pair of jeans and trousers, every coat and jacket and every handbag have acquired a stash of poo bags and usually assorted dog treats. Sometimes I feel like a demented squirrel.

KnickersOnOnesHead · 02/09/2011 13:15

at potential child mauler!! What a joke!

I have one verrrryyyy laid back staffie and one very bouncy one, but she is more likely to lick you to death.

MinimallyNarkyPuffin · 02/09/2011 13:25

I see a woman walking her poodle-cross regularly. She wears brightly couloured coats which match the colour of her dog's 'kerchief. The first time mine saw them they just stared in shock. We scorn them.
