Went up to meet her at her trainers today - she's the dinkiest greyhound you'd ever meet (almost just large whippet size), going a bit grey round the muzzle, coat in a dreadful condition (as expected - she'll be stunning with a black shiny coat) but she's a real sweetie, total licker (apparently when they were testing her out with cats her response was to lick them) and the pair of 'em walked down the lane tails wagging in unison.

Just waiting for the rescue to pull her in and give her their quick once over before we can grab her now.

Ahh Emptyshell, can't wait to see some photos Grin how exciting for you!

I am a Staffy lover, my brother had the most adorable staffy in the world and also there is a man who comes to the pub who has a lovely one. Unfortunately the man that comes to the pub breeds everyone's fears that his dog is not to be trusted and keeps it chained to the bar in the sit position all night, any attempts at hello causes him much concern, it's almost like he is more scared of the dog than anyone else. There are a few of us dog owners who just go and chat and stroke the dog who is allways really sweet and lovely with Maggie but understandably confused when he does get attention and loves it so is a bit exuberant - no more so than any other dog. Man in the pub does pump his chest up proudly that his dog is so well behaved once we have done this but also seems so worried about it having any contact with anyone and there is this theme in the pub that Stanley is dangerous, all of which is complete nonsense. It is so sad :(

ES didn't have a bad opinion of staffs IMHO MJ she had an opinion about the owners but that is completely different to "staffitude".

Problem is that the adoptees won't come up and take the ones in rescue if they forsee they are to perceived as aggressive. It is the very the problem with stereotyping of either dogs or owners and a battle the Staff has been pretty much having for the last 10 years - the owners. They come as one in the majority public's eye.

I really don't want to make this a Staffy discussion thread though - it's about ES getting a hound at last and not negative comments about staffs Smile

Quodlibet · 20/07/2011 20:28

Oooh Dooin you've got me all misty eyed over some of their staffies! I'd love to foster, but this bloody flat/landlord isn't very forgiving in terms of chewed furniture/toilet accidents, which is a shame because I wouldn't mind the challenge of rehabilitating/training. A small, quiet, housetrained, non-destructive dog who liked long walks could have a lovely time here but I don't think you get to pick with foster, do you?!

Yes we have gone off subject.

ES where is the HOOOOWWWWWND!?

DooinMeCleanin · 20/07/2011 21:30

When you get your hound home you might find clearing the table is a lot easier.

And remember they can reach everywhere, literally everwhere. Even the most inaccessable places can be reached if there is food there, they aren't the brightest buttons in the box, but they are damn persistant when it comes to food Grin

MotherJack · 20/07/2011 22:02

Dooin.. have a look at my profile photos.... I used to have to remove the ginger gangly lurcher thing from being stood on my table, clearing it, on a regular basis when I looked after her Grin
