Poor neglected neighbours dog

FatPat · 17/06/2011 22:05

I am really concerned about a rotty who lives behind us (terraced house with small yard)
My dh has just walked past their yard and the poor demented dog who we have never seen being walked has knocked a hole in the fencing. Dh said the dog is literally squashed into a corner because the yard is absolutely overflowing with dog shit.
Who the hell do I go to, I cannot sit here and let this poor defenesless animal be abused like this, it is so wrong and is horribly upseting for us so how the hell the dog is coping is heartbreaking.
Would the RSPCA actually do anything? Who would if they won't get involved
tia

I think i would risk getting a mouthful and just knock on their door and offer to walk the dog for them,at least then the dog could get out from the yard a bit and i would try to clean up a bit when i picked up and dropped off, also refresh the water etc...you never know the owner may be grateful of the help?

TheDogsAintTheProblem · 18/06/2011 16:08

Yes dinamum and my best friend is a metallurgist. That doesn't qualify me to spout off some cruelty-promoting bollocks about silver and gold though, does it?

Stop being a prat and have a look at my other thread when I spoke only yesterday of being FAR from the only person who rescues and far from the best.

What would you your husband suggest then, given all this wisdom? Hurry up, we haven't long, the dogs suffering whilst the lawyers chew the problem over and make plans to take legal action.

I've suggested a variety of approaches above and stand by all of them. I speak not from the POV of being a lawyer but from that of an rescuer and animal rights advocate. I hazard a guess that you speak from neither.

dinamum, in fairness I asked for peoples' ideas about what could be done. Thedogsainttheproblem gave a huge reply advising me of the many routes to take to protect this animal.
The RSPCA is the only organisation I know of that are there to protect animals, at least now I have other options to think about.

If you could take someone with you and be very sweet and smiley and ask if they would like to give you the dog, whether its right or wrong I would probably break down the fence. Up to you , good luck.

dinamum, you're clearly just out for an argument and you're missing the point completely. The point of this thread was to safeguard the welfare of a dog. For me that means doing so as quickly as possible, drawing upon experience and knowledge gained in a relevant area. You have hijacked the thread to carry out a venomous personal attack against me without even bothering to dress it up by bringing anything constructive to the debate on the dog's welfare.

I'm very glad that you're leaving the thread although I had and still have no intention of indulging you with any response in future anyway.

FatPat, far more importantly, I'd very much advocate you calling your local council on Monday morning and let us know what they say. If I can help or advise in any other way please pm me.

Madsometimes · 18/06/2011 19:08

dinamum Where did that rant come from?

Personal attacks on MN are always horrible to witness, and this one is no exception. We have already lost emptyshell in the last few days. I do not want to lose another doghouse member.

I, for one, do not think that everything about the RSPCA is flawed. Its problem is that it is a large and lumbering organisation, and so cannot respond as quickly as many would like. The vast majority of people that work for it, I am sure, have animal welfare at their hearts. My personal preference is not to support charities that use chuggers. My money, my choice.

Spamspamspam · 18/06/2011 19:20

dinamum - uncalled for and rude. TDATP gave some great advice and did exactly what was asked - i.e helped someone who was seeking advice.

You haven't helped anyone, given no constructive advice at all, if your husband is a lawyer and you are a rescuer, why did you not give some constructive advice, would have been much more useful than a personal attack on this thread for no reason.

Glad you have hidden the thread!

FatPat (why on earth have you called yourself that!) I wait with baited breath to hear what happens next. Good luck X

TheDogsAintTheProblem · 18/06/2011 19:24

"FatPat (why on earth have you called yourself that!)"

I thought that too, Spam. :)

Thank you Spam and Madam for your positive remarks - and btw, dinamum is not a rescuer to the very best of my knowledge.

It may help to know your area, Pat, but I appreciate that you may well not want to run the risk of being identified.

chickchickchicken · 18/06/2011 19:25

dinamum - erm i would hazard a guess that you arent a rescuer or even interested in animal welfare. otherwise why would you hijack a thread about how to help this poor dog to launch a personal attack?

we all dont have to agree, of course, and we can all have different opinions how to best help this poor dog but everyone else has posted constructive advice or offered sympathy. at the end of the day a poor dog is being neglected

OP - if it was me i would knock and ask to help with dog/offer to have dog. i would also check how secure the gate is if all else failed

minimu1 · 18/06/2011 19:32

Not sure you can say that about Dogsainttheproblem unless you know dinamum personally?

I was a bit Shock that you suggested stealing the dog but hope the OP acts on other advice.

Just a thought as well I am not getting at anyone if it reads as such but do people mind you putting their phone numbers on forums? - I know I would not want people to put mine on but don't mind pming personal details.

Fatpat hope you can get it sorted - lucky dog to have you to look out for it.

minimu1 · 18/06/2011 19:33

Not sure where the extra about came from!

TheDogsAintTheProblem · 18/06/2011 19:38

minimu in general of course I'd agree with you about personal contact details but in this case the phone number up there is also on GSD Rescue UK's own website (which is run by Jayne herself), available for all to see. :)

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/06/2011 19:51

Oh wow dinamum you havent got an issue with TheDogsAintTheProblem at all have you? Hmm

Hope the dog gets the help he/she needs OP. Sad

OnEdge · 18/06/2011 19:58

Get the dog Get the dog Get the Dog !! Fuck being law abiding, wont help the dog a single bit. Where is it ? I'll come myself.

mellowbird · 18/06/2011 20:00

see this is how i felt, sod the law abiding jobsworths,i'd happily do time for this poor dog.

OnEdge · 18/06/2011 20:01

My Dad walked into a garden and stole a dog that was in a terrible state. She stayed with us for the rest of her life, about 10 years of good life.(used to come surfing Grin)

TheDogsAintTheProblem · 18/06/2011 20:05

A dog who used to go surfing with you? Surfing, OnEdge? Shock :o

Sorry to derail the discussion but please, do tell!

Spamspamspam · 18/06/2011 20:42

TDATP - Oh I know dinamum is not a rescurer however her previous threads putting you down as one made me suggest that if she actually knew any better than you then why didn't she add some constructive advice!

I look at this positive training for us dog owners, ignore the whining and the crying and praise the positive.

You can call have cheese apart from dinamum who is in the doghouse Grin

OnEdge · 19/06/2011 01:00

Yes, she used to come swimming in the surf with us, she loved it. We would stand her on a board and everything, she was amazing. We would go snorkling, and she would swim around us and dive under the water to get stones, we would watch her swimming under water, she would go right down to the bottom. I think she thought she was kid not a dog Grin

FatPat · 19/06/2011 12:13

Had a phone call from the RSPCA this morning asking for some more details.
Hopefully they are taking this seriously,I will let you know of anymore updates.
