You know those double dog leads...?

The ones with one handle and two chains/clips? Do they work for two different size dogs? I have a vizsla and a cavalier and they're constantly getting wound round each other...but with a double, would the vizsla be controlling the direction too much?

I have one. I don't use it as a double lead though because it's a pain in the arse and my dogs always get themselves tangled around each other. Plus it adds pulling as they try to race each other, heaven forbid one of them reaches the pile of smelling shit before the other one [sigh]

I trained them to walk one on the left of me and one on the right. It's much easier this way.

We used one with a Deerhound and a mid sized lurcher. It was absolutely brilliant. We adjusted the length on the two sides to allow for the difference in height, and step length, and they walked beautifully together. They had been a nightmare on separate leads.

I'd definitely try.

Thanks. The cav is 6 and walks beautifully whereas the vizsla is 11months and is giddy everytime we open the door and wants to race ahead. I'd like them both on the saem side as I have to hold DS3's hand still and I walk them to and from school twice a day.

What about an adjustable lead - I've got one from Pets At Home that has D rings down the length of it and a second hook instead of a handle - you can hook it into the D rings to get the length of lead you want - or use it as a double-ender with a dog at either end. Halti do a one as well that you can get much cheaper at Amazon and the like but I'm an impatient sod.

The doublers that go on the end of the lead seem to cramp the dogs too close together for my liking - a neighbour uses one and it's like a tornado of spaniel going on at the end of the lead heading down the road.

at spaniel tornado With Ruby (the Vizsla) that's what it would be like! I like your idea, I think that would suit. Can I keep them close at heel with it too? Ruby is such a bulldozer, I like her close to me to avoid knocking grannies into the path of oncoming cars

i use one when its not missing with a collie x and a tiny jrt. i bought it cheaply on ebay (under £5) and each side adjusts. i dont find the dogs pull
