Exactly what it says on the tin really. Kings idea, that we have a thread where we can all come and ask for help, advice, support or just to vent and that the much more experienced people will come and help us out :)

A good night, even though I put her to bed early, she was still asleep when I went down at 7. Maybe she was overtired last night?

Will keep trying with the lead. She was OK with it last wk, though am idiot as haven't done it for a few days, so will make sure daily x2!

Has got up and eaten big breakfast, poos and pees outside.

Onward and upward. Today's another day. Going to be firm on biting and jumping today

Well done Two, real breakthrough!

OP posts:
minimu1 · 16/06/2011 08:17

Happymm definitely overtired to react crazy dog in the evening - you did the right thing to pop in the crate for a chill out.

Yay you are getting there all of you

Kingsroadie · 16/06/2011 09:11

Hi everyone

No more wees in crate (this morning my husband woke him up at 6:15 instead of 6). Went to bed at 10:20ish. Maybe we'll get there soon! He is definitely drinking a lot less and weeing a lot less frequently too - that could have something to do with lack of house accidents...

two - that's fab! Breakthrough indeed. Long may it continue.

happy - great it's going well for you too - our puppy has his mad moments a few times a day and I put him in his crate and usually he falls asleep within seconds! Silly pups...

Spamspamspam · 16/06/2011 09:12

Well done two!!! did you put his pen back to being near Bailey? That's probably what the distress was about the previous night.

I had a good night too she was in crate from 9.00pm whilst I went on a conference call then I took her out at 10.00 for the loo and we had a cuddle on the sofa till 11.00. This morning I had to wake her up and she casually waddled out took one look at the rain and went straight back to bed! would not come out of crate at all Grin A cocktail sausage got the better of her though!

Happymmm sorry to hear you had a bad day Sad but as you say she was probably overtired. I can tell when my pup is tired because she is white and has white around her eyes, when she is tired they are more pink - helps me enormously with deciding what's wrong with her!

Spamspamspam · 16/06/2011 09:13

Ahh just read your post back two - yes you put Bailey next to him!

twojues · 16/06/2011 12:11

I put Baileys bed as near as I could get it. It meant that he couldn't annoy Bailey because of the bars but they were close.

He doesn't go in to the pen of his own accord, but I can make him get up when he is falling asleep and put him in there and he will go to sleep now.

glad you had a good night too.

alp · 16/06/2011 12:58

Glad that everyone has progress happening! Grin
Our pup has not been howling but will (despite being taken out each hour during day/evening) mess in her crate overnight.

She doesn't have water in there but does have space to poop as previous days it has been carnage in the mornings.

I guess it just one of those things - she hasnt been with us a week so I shouldn't get my hopes too high Wink

Happymm · 16/06/2011 20:27

Nutter dog going nuts again tonight. Have given her lots of sleep protected time in her crate, has had a play outside and a poo. Just won't settle and is running round trying to jump onto sofa, (something we are never going to allow to happen) and nipping. Getting so fed up. Have chucked her outside to have a run round on her own. Don't want to get in a pickle like the lady on the other thread who entertains her pup all the time and can't do much else.
The inlaws are here staying for last couple of days. Could thus be effecting her?

Did the crazy bucking bronco thing on the lead too.

:( :( :( :(

Thank god she sleeps all night in her crate. The only thing going right.

OP posts:
Spamspamspam · 16/06/2011 20:40

Happymmm in laws staying? More interaction during the day or less? What have you done differently for the last two days?

Spamspamspam · 16/06/2011 20:43

Have you tried putting her in her crate? Mine went for an ace walk tonight, by golly she had such a good time, it was like all her christmases had come at once, puddles, no-one else about, my daughter running around like a loon, freedom, no wind, smells O M G!. Got home and she was hyper hyper hyper, running in and out of the house like a loon, nicking things, chasing her tail you name it. I just separated everyone and put her in her crate, 2 mins later fast asleep. Part of me thought she had extra energy to burn but I realised no-way after that walk.

Happymm · 16/06/2011 21:14

Not sure, maybe just different timetabling? Normally, she goes back in her crate at 8.30 for an hour or so whilst I go on the school run, but obviously haven't had to do that whilst people here with her.
Did put her in her crate for afternoon school so she had a couple of hours then as had to go to Drs with DC, granny came and can't really trust granddad not to forget about her.

After lots of offs and pushing her down off the sofa and forcibly putting her in her evening bed, she is fast asleep at my feet thank god.

Can't walk her yet. Jabs on Monday, then another wk after that, though tbf I couldn't walk her anywhere yet, as she doesn't always come to command and still bucks on the lead. Can't do puppy school till sept....

OP posts:
Spamspamspam · 16/06/2011 21:49

Ahh glad to hear she is finally asleep Smile

Re the walking, 10 minutes into a walk the bucking will hopefully stop, there is so much else to look at, she will probably be cowering under your legs for a lot of it, either that or tanking off in search of smells and interesting things! The minute you can get her out do it and she will stay with you. In an open area there is no way that puppy is going to be far from you. Yes she won't come to you in the garden but out in the big bad world she will stick to you like glue at this young age so try and let her out and off lead, if it is safe.

My puppy has been off lead (when appropriate) for five weeks but still if we go somewhere new she is wary and stays so close, sometimes she is begging me to pick her up (which I never do) and take her away from it all, we often find ourselves huffing and puffing as we are falling over her all the time because she can't walk in her own space. We practice lots of recall, today my daughter went way out into the woods hiding behind trees and bushes and kept changing her location! Maggie loves running up to her getting a treat and then running back to me for another one!

Happymm · 16/06/2011 21:59

Thanks spam. Think I need to get back into training and treats. Have been a bit slack, as have just been so busy house cleaning, making beds, cooking etc. My fault entirely...

OP posts:
Happymm · 17/06/2011 08:49

Another day. Going to be positive and train hard today.

Hope you all had a good night. Summer managed 10-7, so at least I get sleeps and am now going to bed at my normal time instead of sitting up to take her out in the cold.

Going to see if can tame the bronco! :)

twojues · 17/06/2011 09:11

10.10 - 6 and a clean pen.

Although he did a poo in dining room while I was sorting mindee out. Need to concentrate on stopping him jumping up. He jumped up at little one who's 20 months old, but the size of a 12 month old.

He's also taken himself into the pen to sleep this morning.

Hope puppies are good for everyone today x

Pudding2be · 17/06/2011 09:42

I've been reading this thread sat with my 2yr old springer, v nostalgic (admittedly through rose tinted specs Grin). Would of liked another but DP won't let me as we have our first baby due in August

A few things we did with Sammy if anyone would like to try. This is what worked for us, so it could be worth a try. I remember being at the end of my tether sometimes Blush

The first three nights were hell. He howled the house down, thank god we didn't have neighbours. Because we worked we sent him to a dog sitter in the day from day four, (when i went back to work) and she wouldn't let him sleep too much in the late afternoon and we tried to not let him have too much sleep before bedtime. That night and since peace and quiet Smile

We had puppy pads in his crate for night time. We let him become dry at night in his own time, but the pads made cleaning up so much easier and he wasn't on them for that long

We are fortunate our living room backs onto the garden which helped with toilet training. We also gave treats everytime he went outside for a poo, which he soon cottoned onto, so would come back leaping and bounding back waiting for his reward Grin

We used to wonder why after eating he would go nuts, and the vets said sometimes protein can make them a bit loopy for a little while.

I would definatley do it all again, not sure if I'll say that about childbirth Grin

Oh and take lots and lots of pictures, I love looking back at how little he was.

alp · 17/06/2011 12:00

More progress by all I see! Fab news!

Pudding2be- we are day 5 of our springer puppy so those hints and any others Wink are gratefully received!

Well... Our pup had me up at 6am this morning with a poop and pee in the crate (on puppy pad). Today is the day after a day at Ascot races so not a great thing to be faced with!

How on earth do you get a puppy off when it has locked it's teeth into your clothes? I now have holey leggingsAngry from the little teeth!

I say 'OFF' and try to prise teeth but don't want o get into a tug of war. I then (only today really) have been giving a treat when she is off but don't want to be rewarding the bad behaviour but equally don't want to let the good go unnoticed!

Thanks!

Happymm · 18/06/2011 18:56

Hey ladies, how are we doing?

Up and down here. Had a good time yesterday with Summer on the school run-took her in the stroller. She was SO good. Had virtually all 600 kids stroke her, and was fab! Didn't nibble any of them! Hmm still nibbles DC though!

Slightly better with her lead, not bucking quite so much!

Second jab Monday,so only another 10days till walkies! :o

minimu1 · 18/06/2011 19:36

To get a dog "off" hold a smelly treat right on top of their nose nearly all (bar a few determined terriers!) will let go then give them the treat. You will find you have pockets full of cheese and hotdogs for a while thoughGrin

alp · 18/06/2011 20:44

Thanks! At least I know I've got the right idea!
The little teeth are so sharp! She is drawing blood! My DS (19mths) has little bruises on his arms and a few scratches where she has caught him through his clothing. In fact I am glad its cooler as I couldn't imagine having bare skin on show!

Happymm · 18/06/2011 21:07

Feel your pain Alp. My youngest is struggling. Summer growing so fast, she can put her paws on his shoulders, and snaps at his face. He's quite scared of her now :( She also knocked him over the other day.

Gross with cheese in pocket-she just jumps and snaps at my hip...what can you do with that. Help!

OP posts:
Spamspamspam · 18/06/2011 21:21

minimu I have a very determind terrier Grin it took a while for her to learn off but she got there in the end, my pockets stink of cheese and hotdogs - urggh

We have had a good couple of days - she is sleeping at night like a dream. Last night went in at 10.30, I got up for the loo at 5.30am but she did not kick off and she started letting me know she was up at about 7.30. Most days we get her up at 7.00 but as it was the weekend I thought I would wait her out and see when she was actually ready.

She had a brilliant walk today and yesterday, we have some amazing walking space, it is so tempting to take her so much further but we have to watch her time - I can't wait until she is older and do some serious walks, there is so much for her to explore! She is getting far more confident and zooming off into the woods after smells, a few times it has taken her a time to come back but we have gone back to massively tempting treats and a proper tug of war with the squeaker when she comes back.

Lead work - bloody nightmare Grin

clam · 19/06/2011 13:43

Well, our little bugger fella started up the barking at 3am this morning! Just when we thought we'd left all that nonsense behind. We ignored him.

Just been to our first training session. He was the youngest dog there (11 weeks) but did us proud. Got to practise like mad this week. He's very good at "sit" now (you hear that, kingsroadie??!) but we're going to extend that to "wait" now. And walking to heel.

Still rubbish at pooing and weeing. We're more than willing to keep going outside with him, but he just does not seem to want to go whe he gets there. One day this week (they're all merging into one) he had gone on the kitchen floor overnight, but didn't do another one until 5 o'clock in the afternoon! That is a hell of a lot of the day spent following him round in the bushes looking to see if he's doing anything! And then you give up and come in for a few minutes to put the kettle on and find he goes under the table!!

twojues · 19/06/2011 15:00

I feel for you Clam. Not sure what got into mine last night, not only was Koda barking and whining but Bailey was too!!! I am so glad I've got the earplugs. Bailey has never barked during the night so don't know what that was all about. They have both slep lots today so hope they sleep tonight.

Koda's tummy is a bit funny today, gave him some fish. He is doing really well with "off". The cat was on the sofa and he didn't jump up at him so praised him big time.

I am lucky with the sees and poos. Every time we go outside he will do a wee straight away and if it's raining he will be super quick!!

Tried getting him to go in the crate today, but he is just not interested.

Watching a crate on eBay to use in the car too, so will be able to start taking him out on my own safely.
