purely for fun

because with my boys still in their teenage-tearaway phase (likly to last anoher year as lab x breeds), there is now way i'm getting another dog right now....

i would consider a low-shedder like a backcrossed doodle rather than a second gen doodle like i have atm (there is enough dog fur in my downstairs loo to model another dog out of it).

a boxer. love these dogs.

and am starting to love SBT's after meeting some lovely ones lately out on dog walks.

My next dog, if I had things my way would be a Stafford or a another bull breed. however I tried to rescue a Stafford from the pound. I got a fluffy Terrier instead.

I recently offered to foster dogs, in particular, bull breeds for a local rescue. Or rather my Dad offered me up to foster Hmm. Of course I was most annoyed Grin

He was told Bull breeds aren't in as much need as Greyhounds in our area and since I own a Whippet and therefore have a liking for sighthounds, the rescue would be most grateful if I would consider fostering Greys and Lurchers for another charity they work closely with. I am ringing them tommorrow.

So in short I'd love a Staffy, but will end up with whichever poor mutt happens to be in most need at the time. It's almost a certainty that whichever breed it is it will have an ongoing illness. I seem to attract these kinds of pets. Either animals are allergic to me and I make them ill in someway or Karma sees that I get what I can cope with Smile

Another farm bred border collie. I've got one farm bred and one pedigreed. The pedigreed is a good natured thick as shit eating machine. The farm bred one is a wonder dog!

WoodRose · 18/05/2011 11:57

I'm planning on getting another rescue spaniel from Ireland once collie pup comes through the other side of her teeanage phase.

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2011 12:00

A dog de bordeux or a blue shar pei oooooh lovely

pinkmagic1 · 18/05/2011 12:05

Always wanted an Irish water spaniel.

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2011 12:07

Annieapple7 my friend has a leonberger and he is humungous! Lovely dog though but loads of hair! Needs a lot of grooming Grin

wildfig · 18/05/2011 15:57

a pair of retired greyhounds needing a soft bed. scuttle and the West of England Grey Rescue have brainwashed me too. Or a wire-haired Dachshund, just because it would be nice to have a portable dog.

izzybiz · 18/05/2011 15:57

I have a SBT (Blue) that we got as a puppy.
Im trying to talk Dh into another dog when shes a bit older, Id love an American Bulldog, think it would be a bit big for us though, I have also always wanted an English Bull Terrier (A tri colour named Dave!) Grin

wildfig · 18/05/2011 15:57

brainwashed in a nice way, obv! I think I meant converted. Blush

chickchickchicken · 18/05/2011 16:05

Grin at wildfig. i think it must be brainwashing as i love jrts but keep imagining being curled up by the fire with a few (didnt admit earlier to wanting a few Blush) elderly greys sleeping next to me

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2011 17:42

I have ABD's izzy, they are lovely dogs, very good Family dogs too I love both of mine, one is a staffy x ABD

MrsRhettButler · 18/05/2011 17:43

I love that you are so specific about your tri colour named dave! Grin

HooverTheHamaBeads · 18/05/2011 17:45

another Border Terrier, called Nip or Nacho

Tolalola · 18/05/2011 17:47

A rescue with melty eyes and expressive ears and/or eyebrows. And a wag that wriggles it's whole body.

DooinMeCleanin · 18/05/2011 17:49

You need a Whippet Tolalola. Mine wags her whole body and is very expressive. She is an odd, wee dog. Very fun.

Tolalola · 18/05/2011 17:53

Oooh sounds lovely Dooin!

higgle · 18/05/2011 18:29

If we are really really in fantasy land I'll have a bloodhound please. If we are in the real world another threadbare warty old staffie will be fine.

highriggs · 18/05/2011 18:39

Having been on the oldies site I would get a whole pack of oldies and we could just pootle about in the garden or little walks to the canal in a very slow manner with lots of stops to speak to neighbours. We could all go to the allotment and pretend to dig but really just be sitting in the sun and drinking tea from the flask.
It's much what I do now...

Another ridgeback...

RunnerHasbeen · 18/05/2011 19:12

DH is already angling for another of the type we have (PBGV), which we only stumbled upon at a rescue but has turned out to be perfect - with the full body wag. DH read somewhere that you should get two, as company for each other and is even making a Bassett name list next to the baby name list, it's longer Hmm. I'd be amazed if another came up in a rescue when it was a good time for us though, they are rare and we travelled quite far to see him, I just can't imagine a vastly different dog fitting our wee family so well.

Fantasy wise I would love a soft coated wheaten terrier, they look similar(ish) to the PBGV, happy and cuddly, but might not have the hound, scent obsessed characteristics. If it was a real fantasy I would have an impeccably trained version of what we have that didn't need to sniff everything on every single walk (we have been told he is doing really well, for a hound - they always add "for a hound").

SecretNutellaFix · 18/05/2011 19:25

If I am ever in a place/ situation to have a dog again then I'm sticking to what I know. Border Collie. I love their energy and intelligence. Plus I miss my old girl. But the next would have to have a short coat! My God, the hair that came off her when she was brushed!

higgle · 20/05/2011 13:28

RunnerHasbeen - I used to have a PBGV - much as I loved him he was very barky and had no recall at all until he got too old to run away very quickly, and then seemed to decide it was easier to asunter back than carry on following his nose. Tell your DH they definately need to live in packs!

mistlethrush · 20/05/2011 13:41

whippet-lurcher here (or small greyhound lurcher) so it can gamble with ds... current rescue (down as whippet cross in rescue but really very little similarity and more of a greyhound nose) is starting to get a bit too arthritic to play with him :(

Elibean · 20/05/2011 19:34

A lab crossed with just enough Basenji to let it talk and lick its paws clean. Not very likely to find one though, so anything happy, easygoing and good with kids will do Smile
