is this possible my dogs are both upto date with their vaccinations.

what is parvo virus? is it curable? and how much cost is likely to be involved?

Your parents are angels - I hope you'll tell them so from me!

Hoping to goodness that Lurcher's recovery continues and that he's back to full health very soon.

Madsometimes · 12/05/2011 21:59

How is your Dad's dog today? I hope he is getting stronger.

DooinMeCleanin · 12/05/2011 22:04

I haven't spoken to them today, but I FB'd my sister this morning and she told me he is loads better and has started playing again.

They have a homecheck for SOS on Saturday, providing the Lurcher gets the all clear from the vet tommorrow and is not contaigous anymore, they will be fostering a Whippet for them.

Sadie was the dog who changed my mum's mind about rescue dogs and has helped secure a very good foster home for other ex poundies, so she did lots of good in the short time they had her Smile RIP Sadie.

do glad their lurcher is on the mend and its great to hear they are going to foster another dog that needs a home.
I wonder if the whippet will become a permanent resident in their home?!

DooinMeCleanin · 13/05/2011 21:34

They are fostering her for 3 weeks before they decide if they want to make it permanent or continue fostering.

My dad wants to keep her, he has been desperate for a whippet ever since I got mine. My mum wants to continue fostering. My sister is determined to foster pugs I should foster an elderly JRT apparently.

In three weeks time, I predict, Mum will be seeing it as Dad does.

I wish there were more families like yours out there. You lot deserve a medal for your big hearts. :)

DooinMeCleanin · 15/05/2011 14:58

I have just had an email off my sister asking "Do you use that really long lead a lot or do you have a spare one we can borrow? Will you get us some of those meat bits you get from the butchers for training? Do you have a spare clicker? How did you learn about the clicker? Do you have a book or something we can read? Does Scruff still somersault off the walls a lot or did you manage to stop him? How did you stop him? This Whippet is worse than Scruff" Grin

I rang my mum to ask what was going on. I was greeted with "Are you coming round to meet this bloody idiot dog your father has gotten?" Grin

She later compared her to our old Doberman, which is good. If she is like our Doby she has a home forever with them. My mum sounded like despite her hyperness, she was very happy with her and if she does need extra training she has landed on her feet with them Smile

My Dad told the lady from SOS about us because my Mum wants me to foster an old JRT they have. She would be eternally gratefull if we would consider fostering greyhounds and lurchers for another charity they work closely with, as greys are the dogs in most need in our area and they are finding it very difficult to find decent foster homes for them. He has a number I have to ring.

I have just got back from meeting her and helping her socialise. She is a bit nervous of other dogs inc. their Lurcher after being bullied in kennels. My Dad wanted me to bring Whippy round to meet her to help her build her confidence around other dogs. Whippy is very quiet and very good with other dogs.

It was, erm, fun Grin. Within seconds I literally had a face full of over excited Whippet. Dd2 was knocked to the ground and licked all over more than once. She does stop when she is told. I was that busy trying to get the Whippet off my ears I did not notice it was feeding time for the bird (huge parrot) who wanted to join in the fun and flew at me from behind, so I ended up with a Whippet licking my ears and a giant bird clinging to my ponytail for dear life Hmm Poor Whippy was quite disturbed and had to go and hide in the bathroom.

She did make friends with Whippy after about 20 minutes they were happily snuggling on the sofa together.

I think she's great. If she doesn't have a forever home with them, she can come here. My Mum loves her, but is a bit worried about my other sisters children and whether they will cope as they are frightened of all dogs but my docile Whippy. They are planning on using my children as training aids to help teach her not to dive all over small people. But she is very friendly and loves children, all she wanted to do was play with my two.

This sounds lovely and it sounds like the new dog will be good for them. Keep us posted; it's very inspiring!

Vallhala · 17/05/2011 15:59

She sounds perfect! :o

DooinMeCleanin · 17/05/2011 16:21

She has to go back soon, to be spayed. Apparently she shouldn't have been put out for fostering until this was done, but there was a miscommunication of some kind. She is coming back to them once she is done Smile

She has been doing well with her recall (in the gated alley. They'd not let her off leash this soon).
