Puppy terrified by thunderstorm?

We had a huge thunderstorm last night, and came downstairs this morning to discover that our 4 month-old puppy had been copiously ill all over the kitchen, and is much quieter than usual.
Could the illness have been a reaction to the storm? He has drunk loads of water this morning, but not yet eaten his breakfast, and is not as bouncy as usual!

Aw, poor pup! No advice but cuddles from me Smile

He's currently sitting in the corner of the kitchen with his toy, looking much less mischievous than normal. A quiet day planned methinks.

Keep him quiet and keep an eye on him, I'd say, in case it is something else.

Our dog heard thunder for the first time last night and was absolutely terrified. A huge clap woke us all up. She leapt out of her skin and was virtually in the bed, shaking like a leaf. She sleeps in the room/ on the bed Blush with us, though, so she may have been much worse if she'd been elsewhere.

Generally if she's very scared she'll wet herself (luckily not on the bed last night Grin ) but we haven't had anything else, although I would guess it's possible.

Hope he feels better soon. :)

Vomiting is an unlikely reaction to fear, he probably had an upset tummy. Start for 24 hours, then feed small quantities of something bland and he should be fine unless he has any other symptoms, e.g. persistent vomiting including vomiting blood, diarhoea including blood, lethargy, etc in which case he should see a vet asap.

For dogs which are scared of thunder DAP collars and plug-ins can help.

Sorry typo, that should read 'starve' not 'start'!!!

We took him to the vets as we were concerned about his lack of appetite. He is now on antibiotics as the vet thinks he has been eating things he shouldn't in the garden, which is more than likely.
He spent the weekend eating chicken, rice and fish (luck puppy!) and loving it. Is there any chance he will have learnt not to eat whatever it was??

No, not on his own! You have to teach him a 'leave it' command and keep an eye out for what he is eating so that you can ask him to leave it and reward him for doing so.

My puppy (12 years ago [sob]) ate windfall apples from the garden without me realising, until he developed gastro enteritis. He was Very Poorly. Learnt a horrible lesson and I think that he paid for my mistake for the rest of his life as he always had a very sensitive digestive tract afterwards, so yes, agree with Booboostoo - get on to the "leave it" command straight away.
