Farting Dog!

Help! My 5 month old Lab is trying to gas me to death!

It's only been happening for the last week or so, no change of food and as he doesn't seem to know he is a lab Hmm he doesn't try to eat anything when I take him out for a walk.

He smells Evil. Any advice or am I going to have to stick a cork up his bum?

Give him charcoal biscuits?

nose peg? Grin

Fwiw I always think puppies can create far more noxious gas than adult dogs, until they reach old age anyway!

What is he fed on? My whippet was a terrible farter even on a top quality dry, but since I swapped to raw, he literally doesn't fart unless he had had an unusual treat and even his poo barely smells.

ellangirl · 07/05/2011 11:01

or you could tell the dog to blame it on the DCs?

emptyshell · 07/05/2011 12:31

Look at the food you're feeding him - my dog's guts periodically flare up (better on the food he's on now though) and when they do it's accompanied with lethal farts - often so bad he looks puzzled himself as to where the noise and smell's come from!

Scuttlebutter · 07/05/2011 12:39

Empty, ours do that occasionally. The noise will wake them up and then they will look round in a puzzled way at their rump. Grin

Ours are greyhounds - sigh. Farting reduced considerably after switching to raw, but ours have mastered the knack of saving the very finest, most fruity, lingering aromas for when we have visitors. I swear they look at the calendar in the kitchen, note the imminent arrival of the inlaws, and crank up the sulphur tank.

I would love to feed a BARF diet, but sadly freezer space dictates otherwise.

He is on JWB puppy, I'm thinking of switching to skinners eventually as it's so bloody expensive!

Has been on the JWB for around 3c months I think? Only a couple of poos a day so I thought that indicated it agreed with him?

Thanks for all the replies to such an important subject btw Grin

mine are on JWB and pleased to say we only get two or three poos a day. our smallest dog is a bit windy though!

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 07/05/2011 14:19

Ours did this till we changed his food. In order of ponginess James Wellbeloved duck variant came tops, followed by Hills puppyfood. Now he's on Royal Canin breed specific for Labs the air is sweet. Rawhide chews also make him windy.
