Annual vaccination vs titer test

I wasn't sure whether to include this with the other vaccination thread, but I think this is a bit different. My goldie is due to have his first booster vaccination. Last year when we got him, some dog trainers we met advised not to re-vaccinate, but to have a titer test done. The May edition of Dogs Today magazine has a long article about the dangers of annual vaccinations - it seems they are both unnecessary (as immunity persists from first puppy vaccinations for at least several years), but also dangerous (can cause life-threatening problems such as cancer, Addison's, aneamia). So I'm thinking of not re-vaccinating, but having a titer test done to establish his immunity level. Does anyone else do this, and if so, how do you deal with boarding kennels and anyone else who require annual vaccinations?

I wish I could go with titre testing but the kennels we use will not accept it Sad. They insist on yearly boosters plus kennel cough.

That said my two have never seemed to have any ill effects from their boosters [touches wood]

I used to do annual vaccinations and I think I have posted as such on here. However this year I titre tested and it was really interesting. My pup due for first vaccinations is fully covered as is my 15 year old lab staffy and collie cross. One of my collies is not so he had his vaccinations.

I think I will titre test from now on - many kennels are now accepting titre test results.

What about insurance, do they require yearly vaccinations? I know they asked if he was vaccinated when I first took the policy out.
I do worry about vaccinating if they are not necessary as my pups mum developed liver disease shortly after her booster at 4 years old. It was never proven that the injections caused the liver problems but the owner believed it was the result.

I just want to do whats best for my pup but its hard to know what to do at times.
