Hi there
I am looking for a dog friendly place to visit tomorrow preferably in or around Leicestershire or Derbyshire. I have two Rhodesian Ridgebacks , one aged nearly two, very calm and well-behaved and likes long walks, the other 12 weeks old so very boisterous but tires easily and one very active 9 year old ds. Was thinking maybe a National Trust place but not sure so looking for suggestions. Thanks!

Bosworth Battlefield/Shenton/Battlefield line - plenty of walking around the canal/railway/battlefield.
I don't have a dog but see lots being walked around the towpaths.

Also Calke Abbey is good for a visit - the park/stables area and has a good play area.

Probably a bit late to this, but Bradgate Park to the north of Leicester is great - loads of dogs and lots of good scenery/running around and general adventuring to be done by 9 year old boys. Deer run wild so dogs need careful supervision, although it is big so you can avoid them.
Newstead Abbey is good also, and probably less walking for the younger dog (but loads for the 9 year old son.. the gardens are fab) but is in Nottinghamshire (north, off the A60) so maybe a bit far. There is a house (Byron's seat) but no dogs allowed in it.

Calke Abbey is good (for dogs and kids). Otherwise Dovedale is lovely (but more towards Staffs). Clumber Park (north nottinghamshire) is also nice, but maybe a bit out of the way.

Plenty of open countryside to walk in in Derbyshire though. We will be going to Kedleston Hall tomorrow (Derby), which has lovely grounds and an easter egg hunt for dc's.

I am 48 and grew up in Leicestershire- I have great memories of Bradgate Park---there were lions under the bracken which we used to throw ourselves into and i always had to go home in mums cardigan after falling in the river
