I have a little male mop on legs who is about 8m old.

He is not yet neutered.

He wee's outside in the garden but only on the patio. All I have been able to smell for the last 3 days is an extremely strong and very unpleasant wee smell.

I have scrubbed the patio with hot water and dettol 4 times now and I swear it's just making it worse Hmm

So questions are when I get him neutered will his wee smell less and how on earth can I get rid of this smell from the garden?

TIA.

it is toxic though so make sure you rinse away well do not put anywhere he might chew or lick?
If you would rather he tiddles elsewhere spray the area with tea tree oil or citronella and he will find somewhere else hopefully
I have 2 large breed bitches and I swear by Jeyes fluid for build up wee spots, otherwise hot water and ordinary strong disinfectant on a daily basis keeps it ok smelling

Oh, is it ok around dc? I have 3 very little ones who play out there to0 [bubiscuit]

No, you're going to need one of these types of cleaners. They have enzymes in them that break down the compounds in the urine that cause odor. They do work on concrete as well.

Thank you Leaves, will grab some tomorrow, this heat isn't helping with the smell!

thank you! because my garden also pongs as well.

Biological soap powder is a cheap way to get rid of any smells. It has the right enzymes in it. We have been using Simple Solution, which we were recommended by several people. I imagine they all work in the same sort of way. Is that how Febreeze works?

musicposy · 22/04/2011 20:49

Our elder dog had a huge wee accident on our landing carpet once and it stank for weeks. I tried everything under the sun and then someone suggested a solution of biological washing powder. I made the solution pretty strong, and it worked!

Make sure you don't have the water too hot, no more than lukewarm. Enzymes work best at around body temperature. Too hot and you'll kill them off (or they'll become denatured, as my Biology geek daughter would say!) and the solution won't work.

Simple solution is good too, but much more expensive!

Biological washing liquid 1:10 solution should do the trick. Powder would work too but the liquid dissolves better so doesn't leave residue.

NotShortImFunSized · 27/04/2011 12:37

Biological washing powder seems to have done the trick [cgrin]

Tried getting the smelly pet stuff but my ridiculously small town doesn't sell anything like that.

Thank you so much for all your help.

This stuff vmistralie.co.uk/catalogue/product/214/ODOURFRESH-PET-DISINFECTANT---Standard

works wonders, there is a variety of scents and the smell lingers for ages!

virginiasmonalogue · 29/04/2011 23:12

I second mistral. I have 4 dogs and the patio never whiffs of wee.
