I would just like to thank you for your advice about getting a rescue dog rather than a puppy.

We have adopted a big bear called Charlie. He is a choc lab and just stunning. Great with the DC and just bonkers. He fits in so well, and I don't have to worry about toilet training as he is so good at that as well :)

That's lovely news! Thank YOU for giving not only Charlie a chance of a life but also the dog who will move into his rescue kennel and, pray to goodness, away from the risk of being unwanted and put to sleep as a result.

I have a long-held love of Labs... my Grandad had one and my Uncles yellow Lab was my best friend when I was growing up... and of course I have my old loyal buddy Max, a Lab cross now.

All I need now is photos please! :)

I will get some photos tomorrow for you. He is huge for a lab, like a bear.

Thank you. Sounds like my kinda dog. :)

I had a bear of a choc lab called Harry, he was magnificant and fantastic with my nephews.

Here you go. He even poses for the camera with a big cheesy grin.

Honestly Val, he is just a fab dog, he is lead trained, but we can also let him off his lead and he doesn't go far. He sits when told, doesn't do any mess in the house and is just fantastic with the DC.

He's gorgeous! I may just have to do a "kidnap run" Grin

Vallhala · 19/04/2011 09:00

Me too! What a stunner! :o

I wish my teenagers were as well trained as Charlie!

WoodRose · 19/04/2011 09:03

Wow! What a handsome, happy dog! I think I may be racing QuietTiger to get to him first. Grin

Thank you all. I might have to arrange a body guard for Charlie soon then ;)

He's lovely - he looks so happy and friendly

I'm a huge advocate for rehoming adult dogs. We have 2 - one is a terrier who came to us very traumatised by his previous existance - he was 18 months old and until he went into rescue had never been outside. He had been beaten and starved.
The past three years with him have been challenging but incredibly rewarding. He is snuggled up under my arm right now and is one of the greatest sources of joy in my life.

I hope Charlie brings you many years of joy and happiness.

Oh the poor dog Ilsa :( I hope his previous "owners" got prosecuted.

Sadly I don't think they did.

The man at the rescue (who had seen lots of awful things) cried when he described the conditions my poor boy had been living in.

I take comfort from the fact that he is now spoilt rotten has a lovely life now. He has come on in leaps and bounds recently and we can do lots of lovely things now - today we were walking on a bridle path (dogs off lead) and we met 2 horses and a dog and mine behaved impecably - at one time I couldn't walk him past another person (let alone animal) without him going beserk.

I hope Charlie is enjoying the lovely weather Grin
