Recommendations for carpet to disguise shedding dog hair

Howdy - just had a roof extension finished on our house and need to choose carpet or wood flooring. I have a Labradoodle who unfortunately sheds his beautiful black coat so am looking for recommendations for carpet that don't show dog hair that much..colour/thread/twist etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? Eventually I will do the whole house as well but with an 18mth LO and one on the way I reckon that can wait til after potty training. Do you think wood flooring would be better for taking care of shedding hair?

We have wooden/ tiled floors downstairs and a neutral berber(sp?) type carpet on the stairs and upstairs. We also have 2 full-coated collies who seem to shed 24/7 .

We can easily sweep/ hoover the vast fur balls they produce from the downstairs, but no amount of hoovering with our Miele Animal gets the upstairs carpets clean. We now have a lot of black and white hairs which s woven into the carpet despite the dogs not being allowed upstairs! We have decided to get rid of the carpet and have wood floors throughout with washable rugs. Yet another dog based decorating decision. Grin

Wooden floors. Carpets will trap hair, flea eggs, bad smells, dirt, dust, dust mites and all sorts of other crap. When you have a dog and LO, it isn't just the hair you need to think about - consider wet winters and the amount of mud/oomska they bring in. Don't forget accidents involving poo, wee, blood, vomit and bile. Bones dragged through and hidden under their favourite cushion. Tails knocking over coffee mugs. Can you tell we have three tall dogs? Grin

We have wooden flooring through most of downstairs and tiles in kitchen/utility. Best decision we ever made. You may also wish to consider issue of allergies. Housekeeping for allergies is much easier on wooden floors - carpets trap many allergens such as house dust mites, pollen etc.
