UnWiseDog has been going through puppy socialisation, management and obedience classes organised by our local vet. I opened our local paper today to find out that the incredibly well respected senior dog trainer has been convicted of appalling cruelty to a feral kitten. Long and short of it is that on finding this kitten in the park next to his garden, he kicked it, set his two dogs on it and then chucked it into the pond where the poor thing unsurprisingly died.
Apparently he is a keen gardener who is creating a garden to attract native birds that the cats keep catching and killing.
The RSPCA wanted him banned from being allowed to deal with animals again. Despite saying that the incident was the worst example of animal cruelty he had ever seen (was filmed by a neighbour), the magistrate imposed a hefty fine and allowed him to continue with his animal work because he does a huge amount of work training guide dogs.
Obviously, I won't be taking UnWiseDog to his classes again. DH seems to think that the vet practice is bound to be aware of the conviction and it is up to them to decide whether they want to associate their practice with him. I think that I should least speak to the practice and let them know that I won't be paying for obedience classes with this guy because of this and to ask what they intend to do with regards to their association with him. Am I just being daft or a busybody?
