My poor itchy puppy - what would you do next?

I have a 15 wk old cockerpoo puppy (a smashing little thing) but she scratches and bites herself all day long. I am a first-time dog owner and I'd be so grateful for any ideas as to what to try next.

A few days after we took her home (at 8 wks) she was diagnosed with 'walking dandruff' (a type of mite infestation). I understand this is pretty common and usually easy to treat. However, in her case it proved difficult to shift (as she was so tiny the treatment options were limited). Finally, 6 long weeks later, she was given the all clear, but she's no happier.

We have been back and forth to our vet and also taken her for a 2nd opinion. She also has a benign tumour on her side (histiocytoma) that gave us a fright when it first popped up!

At the moment she is being washed in epi-soothe and having viacutan pumped on her food. We are now thinking of changing her food as our puppy trainer suggested she may fare better on a wheat-free diet.

Has anyone tried Acana pacifia? It seems a good quality food and I wondered if the high fish content would help her skin? Or would you first try a plain chicken and rice diet to see if it is a food allergy at all?

Any other ideas? Poor poppet seems so irritated.

what food is she on? Wet/Dry, have a look at the contents to see if it containts wheat/gluten/maize.

Last time I was at the vet a lady was there to get her supply of tablets for her little dog. It had hayfever (doggy type) allergic to a grass pollen and it scratched continually. Thought I would offer this as an other option to you.

I use Arden Grange, changed from Royal Canin SC24 (blue whiting & Tapioca) which I used when my dog was on a special diet for something else. Worked a treat although bloody expensive.

The other food I have used is Burns Duck & Brown Rice, much cheaper than the SC24!

Do try chicken and rice. We have a dog with an allergy and we now feed him Webbox, which is gluten free, and cheap!
Does your puppy have rawhide chews or those munchy rolls? They really set my dog off.

Micro-tec shampoo is fantastic( you can buy online ) Try a wheat/ gluten free diet, you can also add fish oils to her food. Good luck .

Thank you all, I will do a bit of research on the different foods you've mentioned. Hmmm, good point about the chews etc I hadn't thought about them - will have a look at the ingredients.

Googled the Micro-tek shampoo, lots of people seem to love it. Once the epi-soothe runs out, I'll definitely give it a go.
