cherry's (border terrier) coat does not look blown but it is coming out in handfuls so I have decided to have a go at stripping her. she quite likes it for about 5 mins and then she starts snapping. over the course of the day I have managed to do one shoulder.

wondering whether to persevere or send her to the grooming parlour to get it done, presume they will have to umuzzle her. I would rather do her my self but cant see how we are ever going to get through the task, she will bve ready for doing again by the time I have finished.

any one got any tips?

No tips but we're hoping to get a Border Terrier pup at the end of June. Have an old lab who went to my Mum's whilst we went on holiday and Mum wants to keep her - company and security. Have read brilliant things about Borders - are they as good with children as I've heard? Ours are 9, 7, 2 and 2 so it's the 2 yr olds who would be a concern. Heard last week that the bitch is in whelp with pups due mid April. Can't wait! Sorry - hijack!

no worries, my border (cherry, pic on profile) is fab with kids, she did nip a couple of times when she was tiny but is fine now, she has been around lots of kids including little toddlers and when she was younger I had to out her on a lead to stop her jumping up but she is absolutly fine now, will jump at adults but not kids iyswim. being a terrier training has always been a bit of an up
hill struggle but now she is past a year I feel like we are really getting there. she is fantastic and I am totally in love, she curles up on the sofa next to us all evening. we have a baby gate to the dining room so the kids can shut her out if they want to. My kids are 5 and 7 and we have had her a year.
On the stripping side I have ended up taking her to the grooming parlour today to be done, If you get a border they should only be hand stripped as any clipping ruins their coat. she looks great now.

My mum has a westhiland terrier and tried to strip him and just couldn't. He snapped and got quite panicked about it all. My mum thought at first to get a doggy valium to calm him down but decided to take him to the strippers....

He loves it and gets a good bath too, everyone is happy.
