Advice on mad weimaraner

I've got a 18 week old Weimaraner who seems to be regressing. Over the last two weeks he is jumping up and more more, he's had numerous accidents in the house (had a fortnight or so with none, we take him out and praise him exuberantly when he goes outside, ignore it when he goes indoors), his recall is getting worse...it's making me a bit worried. I know weims are hectic dogs and take a lot of training, that's fine, that is what we signed up for (in fact he's just finished his first training course). I just don't understand why his behaviour seems to be going backwards? Its like he's turning into a teenager! Help!

what % protein is his food?

I've just switched him from Hills Science Plan Large Breed (puppy) to HSP Medium on the advice of the people I went puppy training with, they said that weims count as medium; large would be great dane or newfoundland etc. But that's only been a few days and no change yet as far as I can see (although his poos are less frequent!)

Is this likely to be having an effect? Does anyone have any advice? I love him to bits, I just feel like we're getting nowhere with his training.

Wait till he does turn into a teenager at 6-9 months Grin.

Personally I would not feed Hills, it is not a bad food as such but it is well known for being hideously overpriced for what it is.

See dog food reviews here

Wrt his behaviour I'm sure you are doing nothing wrong, but he is still so much a baby, he will come on in fits and starts (but hopefully always moving in the right general direction) until you have a calm, well mannered dog somewhere between 18 months and 2 ish, until then he will display some seemingly impossible behaviour. Just be calm, consistent and keep on with the training.

And I wasn't joking about the teen bit either.....

Thanks for your reply. It's the toilet training that's stressing me out slightly, although I think he does understand that he's not supposed to go indoors, he just doesn't care sometimes. But at least he doesn't stand right in front of me and pee whilst looking me squarely in the eye anymore. I guess that's progress. I'm letting him out every hour without fail unless he's crated, and he's fine from 10pm till 6am without needing to go.. I don't get why he still occasionally feels the need to go indooors.

It's normal for puppies to still have occasional accidents up until the age of about 6 months. Don't worry he'll get there.
