Howling dog next door

Hi all

Next door has a beautiful weinermarer(sp?) dog who has a gorgeous temperament. Only problem is, as soon as his owner goes out, the howling starts. He's not left all day and is well cared for, he just does not like being left on his own. Thing is, it's starting to get on my nerves now. I do tell my neighbour that the dog has been howling. I was going to go back to bed this morning after the kids left for school, but no point. Any suggestions I can give my neighbour?

you must tell them,they probably have no idea.
when we first had our husky,she howled all night.
next morning i went straight round neighbours houses and explained .luckily no one heard her but i asked them to let me know if she howled while i was out, nobody has said anything so im guessing shes fine.i would be mortified to think she was upsetting my lovely neighbours but she is hardly left alone {4 hrs total a week tops}
has the dog only just started doing this or have you reached breaking point?

I have told him. It's not incessant and I'm not at breaking point, just a bit irritated that it's affecting my life and sleep a bit. He is mortified that the dog does this, just wondered if anyone had any tips for him. I've suggested a Kong type thingy to amuse the dog.

if he knows about it im a bit puzzled ,there are ways to help dogs with seperation anxiety.im not up to speed with them as my dog doesnt have it ,i think its a trust issue not boredom as im sure he has lots of toys {mine does}
could he be barking when someone walks by?or is it any time?how long is he left?

I think unfortunately it's quite common for weimarana's to get bad separation anxiety.

Similar problems with our dog, we tried rescue remedy, always leaving with a kong/something else to chew, somthing that smelt of us, a DAP diffuser, only leaving for very short amounts of time to start with, closing doors between ourselves and the dog (when in the house) to increase independence, not making a fuss when leaving/returning, closing curtains, leaving the tv on etc, etc and something out of that lot worked!

I'll suggest all of the above! Thank you. :D He's been going on and off since 8am. I wanted to go back to beeeeeeeed!

wfrances, he barks at people coming up the steps to his or our front door, but I'm happy with that. It's just "oooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww how dare you leave me daddy you're so mean to me and I wanted to go with you" even if he's only left for 10 minutes. It's generally no more than 3-4 hours, usually a lot less.

It's not improved, and neighbour and I are no longer speaking after I mentioned it to him nicely and asked if he'd leave the radio or TV on. He was just a bit of a nasty shit and went off on one. Luckily, he'll be moving within 6 months.
