Talk to me about agility and flyball please...

Thinking of taking my nearly 4 year old goldie to agility and/or flyball in the Summer as a treat for him but also to help me get fit again after baby number 2.

He absolutely loves playing fetch, but isn't always so good at actually giving it back to you :) Will this matter? They'll help me train him into that right?

He is ok sometimes, it's just if he takes a very strong liking to a particular ball he has been known to just lock his jaws around it totally!

I'm not sure whether to go for the agility or the flyball first? Any recommendations what to start with?

I have a ball obsessed springer, I take him to agility which he is quite good at.
Never tried him with flyball I think he may just sit at the box and keep pressing the release to catch the ball and never bother to actually bring it back! Grin

Agility would make you fitter as you have to run more, although you will still have to run at flyball when you first start.
There aren't many clubs that do just flyball, you would probably be better looking around for one that does a combination of things maybe agility and flyball or obedience training.

Thanks fruitshoots, we've got a club down the road that does all 3.

Ha, ha, I can imagine mine doing that too. He has a springer friend actually that he sometimes steals balls from. Then we have to wait for him to drop it once he gets home and walk back round to the owners house like the parents of the school bully to give it back!!

we do agility and love it. mine is ball obsessed so we use a ball on a rope as a reward once he has completed a circuit

I love and am passionate about agility - be careful it is very addictive and life consuming Grin

Most dogs love it and there is nothing like the bond of having a good run with your dog.

Look at crufts on line tomorrow to see the ABC anything but a collie doing agility here

Thanks minimu, that's one of the things I am looking forward to the most - seeing how much he'll enjoy it and the smile on his face afterwards (goldies really do smile you know...)
