Gentle Leader

We brought one for our dog today, he doesn't pull all the time, especially if we go somewhere new but when he does pull, he basically pulls my arm out the socket!
I didnt want to get a harness or anything like that as I think he'd be inclined to pull into it iyswim.
So I just wanted to know if anyone has tried/can recommed a gentle leader?
Any experiences would be much appreciated!

We've use one with great success on our lab. She pulls so badly that she is in danger of collapsing her trachea on the normal collar / lead combo (according to the vet and behaviourist.) At 23 kg, it's also a heck of a lot of dog and she could easily pull us over if she spots something she wants to investigate (food, person, bird, funny shaped leaf......)
I'm really pleased with how it works. Her whole demeanor changes when it is on. She just seems to become much calmer and relaxed. With the collar/lead, she becomes almost frantic and starts pulling and yanking before we even get to the garden gate. Our walks are much calmer and more enjoyable for her as well as me when we use the gentle leader. She still walks with a bounce in her step and her ears pricked up so she's definitely enjoying herself!

Ooh I might have a look at these, Oscar is pretty good on the lead until he sees a pigeon, then it's him walking me rather than the other way around Hmm

I use a halti which I think is the same. I can't walk my dog without it! It's brilliant and stops him choking himself on his collar.

The only downside is that sometimes people think it's a muzzle and assume he must be dangerous, so they give us a wide berth! I've heard mums tell their kids to "stay away from the dog with the muzzle" I usually explain if they're close enough.

We did use one and it really stopped the pulling but our dog can take it off Sad.

Just took him out with it, really did stop the pulling but as soon as he was off lead he spent the entire time rubbing his face in the mud!
We have one very dirty dog! Smile

He's rubbing his face to try and get it off. Just ignore it.

Crawling Have you got a safety link? We had a problem with ours pulling off their Canac leader so was advised to get a safety link. Basically it attaches the head bit to the dogs collar so if the dogs head slips out the dogs collar is still attached to the lead. We got ours off ebay for a couple of quid a piece.

OP - I love the gentle leader because it has transformed dog walking from being a total nightmare where I used to have my arms wrenched out of their sockets to something approaching civilised!
