How do you wash your dog's bed?

I was thinking of chucking it in the washing machine but I am worried my machine will then be FULL of dog hair if I do. Will it? Is it easier to clean the machine than to wash the dog bed any other way?
Tips/ideas/useful suggestions welcomed here!

Hoover it then wash it in the machine. I wash it about once a week, have done since November, hasnt clogged the machine yet, although she's short haired.

Wash in the machine and then I put the machine on an empty 90deg cycle to give it a clean.

Thank you! I will give it a go then.

I sneaked my dogs bed into commercial machines at a place that shall remain nameless where a nameless person worked lol But that was a one off and its too big for my machine so it hasn't been washed in about 5 months. Smells beautiful.

ours doesn't have a bed - he has a single duvet that goes on the sofa and he sleeps on that. he also has several fleecy blankets.

i wash the duvet, complete with cover, once a week. the blankets as needed but at least once a week.

i've never had a problem with hairs in the machine.

he has had dog beds in the past and they have been a pain to keep clean. he never liked them anyway - much prefers the sofa!

Got one with a removable cover - shake it out (he obliging confines most of the fur shedding to the cream carpet in the lounge - generous chap that he is) and bung in washer on express wash.

I hoover the beds/Vetbed, wash in our machine then do an empty hot cycle afterwards, but with two shed-tastic hounds, I'm planning on getting a second washing machine plumbed into the garage.

I dread to think what the inside of my washing machine looks like. There's probably enough hair in the filter to knit my own Dachshund.

I think it depends on the type of dog and type of bed you have. I like to wash our dog beds once or twice a week and I have very hairy dogs (Golden Retrievers). The machine was getting clogged on a regular basis and it was becoming a nightmare tbh.

I switched from vet bed/proper dog beds to Teco Value sleping bags folded in half and stitched like that, into a rectangle. I can fit a couple in the machine at once, they dry really, really easily and quickly and the hair doesn't stick to them so no more blocked machine. The dogs seem to quite like them too. Smile

I like the tip midori thank you. He seems to like a padded blanket type of bed (thick mat really) so the folded sleeping bag would work for him. Smile
