Puppy pulling washing off line.

Hi, has anyone got any tips on how i can stop the puppy pulling the washing off the line. Shes a Patterdale and can jump really high. Today she pulled the whole line down with all the towels on. I have 3 kids so do a lot of washing and this is going to be a problem if i dont sort it out. Any tips would help.

Keeping an eye on this as my two keep pulling bedding off straight into the bloody mud!

sorry, this made me smile Smile i do sympathise though with having to dry washing and imagine its not funny when its happening to you

two tips - teach puppy leave it command. hang a fun dog toy from something, climbing frame or anything sturdy (not the line though). encourage the dog to play with toy and make playing with that toy really fun

i have never experienced this though so hope someone comes along with better advice

oh yes could you change to rotary line as i imagine that would look less fun to a pup than a straight line with wonderful toys washing blowing in the wind

My beagle does it, she's 1yr old and still not stopped, definitely wind blowing washing that attracts her. Trouble is if I forget to watch her and she gets something, I stand no chance of getting it back! She runs around garden thinking it's a great game! Last time I pegged washing out, line was full. Came back to it later and there was a space! Two empty pegs left dangling on line, think it was pair of DH boxer shorts! But still haven't found them , weeks later, she buries her treasures you see!

Grin at jaynerae's clever dog

agree with 'leave it' command and the toy idea
you just have to keep saying no! leave it! and she should learn in the end, its all about repetitiveness
my pup used to do it but shes stopped now, shes 5 months so it can be done, she learnt 'no' and 'leave it' very early in life though Grin

Beagle knows no and leave it, in fact beagle knows and can perform every command at training club. Other owners think she is amazing, but when beagle is not a club beagle makes a decision as to whether she knows that command at this particular time, and her decision is always no, I have forgotten that command, as it's much more fun to have mum chase me round the garden after stolen item! I don't find it funny at the time, but in hindsight,

She is very naughty - steals everything she can get her teeth near, her jump twist and turn head backwards stealth move to reach back of worktop really is something to behold,

Whole family has had to become beagle aware due to many beagle escapades!

Lolas the same, she's good with other commands just not the 'leave the washing' one. I have an older dog and shes never had any interest in the washing. She definately thinks its a game. When i catch her with a towel she drops it immediately so knows its naughty. Thankfully she cant get the smaller stuff yet, just towels, i will have to hang them sideways Smile
