Our lovely doddle was looked after by a lady while we went away for the weekend.
Since we got back he has not been himself. He is quiet and off his food a little (still eating but leaving food which he never does)

He had 2 other dogs to play with there but i know he had a slight accident while there but seemed fine.
Is this normal behaviour. We have never left him before this time.

Hello - I didn't want to leave your message unanswered! What was the slight accident? Has something happened that may have stressed him. If he's been playing a lot he may just be tired - mine is very subdued after very busy weekends.
Could he have eaten something, or be ill? Might be worth a quick visit to the vet.

How is he today?

Very odd. I know though that D would want to be told and would answer any questions to the very best of her ability, so why not give her a call? Perhaps he misses his canine run-around-like-mad companions - I know that D mentioned that her pup and your boy were running around like loons together and had become friends quickly and easily.

I'd offer to ask D myself but having responded in an arsey manner not responded happily to her recent suggestion that I didn't get the hump with a twat of an owner who wanted rid of their dog (albeit that I did so on the private part of our rescue forum where the owner couldn't read it! Angry ), I think she'd rather talk to you directly for that reason as well as because you're the beautiful boy's "mum".

Despite our differences on whether or not we should offload about twattish owners on the rescue's forum I can never take away from D the fact that she's dedicated, responsible, knowledgable and caring and know for sure that she will be anxious to speak with you and reassure you. We just are both outspoken and clash a little sometimes! Wink

Do give her a call. :)

She did warn me he may be a little off as its normal after dogs have been away for a weekend, especially as he has had a busy weekend.
His accident was he was off lead and run off and fell down a shear drop into the little river below, he doesnt seem hurt, but D did say it was about 12 foot :(
Im wondering if his got hold of her dogs foods, and became fussy?
Vallhala, I didnt want to seem as if Im having a moan about her, and Im not I promise.
However there are 2other dogs there and our doddle is submissive imo, (but she thinks he doesnt get doggy language) and Im wondering if his just warn himself out and maybe feeling a little pu in his place?

Shock at the accident - I didn't know, so sorry. :(

I know that you're not having a moan and so will she I'm sure. I'd still suggest you call her, she normally has great insight and advice.

I've mostly been in the other situation, where as a foster carer the new dog has come to my house and stayed for a time so I've no great experience of being on the receiving-the-dog-back line. All I have had is when my boys have been in the rescue kennels where I help out when I've gone away for a long weekend. Looking back they were a little quieter than normal for the first 24 hours once they'd got over the "it's mum, we're home!" stage, but I've put this down to being worn out with over-excitement and new things.

Knowing a little of the other 2 dogs sharing the weekend with your boy I'd think he was indeed very worn out, they are non stop! :)

12 feet really is quite a drop - if it was me I'd definately get him checked at the vet.

he is very much back to himself last night and today :)
