Dog had his rabies vac last night & we got some worming tabs.

Previously he had a vac against worms-will the tablets be as good?
(As a needle phobic I´m happy for him to have one less jabBlush)

Is a multivac against Parvo/distemper/kennel cough advisable?

We are not intending to kennel him at all & the vet didn´t mention it.

Hello - we use tablets to worm our labrador and have never had a problem.
I think Parvo and distemper are standard annual vaccinations - most vets won't even question doing them. KC not so much, but it's worth remembering that the disease can spread rapidly anywhere where dogs gather, so not just kennels, but also training classes, busy vets or dog parks. We have ours vaccinated against it. He's not keen though as it has to go up his nose!

Thanks for the reply.

Looks like he´ll be going back for another vac soon then-two if we don´t manage to get him to take his worming tablets!

We always smear peanut butter or soft cheese on the tablets and they go down no problem.
Of course, I have a labrador. He eats rocks...

I take a thin slice of cheddar and wrap it round the tablet - squishing it into a ball. No problem! But then I have a labrador too.... Grin

Thanks for the advice re tablets.

Well, have just looked at his passport & he was vaccinated against rabies last night, also a multivac of lepto something, distemper, Hcc(?), parvovirus, & kennel cough.

So all done!

I thought that the rabies vac was given seperately & that they couldn´t have any others within 14days.

The most likely worming injection that he was given was Droncit that only kills the tapeworms. Most common wormers Drontal and milbemax tablets kill both round and tapeworms so the tablets are likely to be more effective than the injection.

One of our dogs eats worming tablets like they are treats!! Grin

For the others I just usually crush between two spoons then add to their kibble with a little gravy or something.

Wrapping in a piece of raw bacon works well too (and for cats!) or you can make into a small sandwich with some peanut butter.

You'll be fine getting the tablets down.

diddl · 22/02/2011 14:46

According to the "blurb" it was for various tapeworms, hookworms & roundworms.

It may be about tablets actually-(it´s Polish so I´m a bit confused)

There´s a sticker so I was assuming a vac, but looking at the sticker again there´s no batch no or date.

The worming is important on your return . Your dog must Be treated for ticks and tape wormNO less than 24 hours before entering the uk and no longer than 48 hoursit must be done by a vet who will sign the pet passport. Make sure you know where to get this done as otherwise your dog will be quarantined . Also I guess you know that you need to go back to the vet for a blood test and then you cannot come back into the country until six months has passed from this date. Good luck

Baffledandbewildered · 23/02/2011 01:49

Just thought rabies vaccine needs to be given BEFORE normal vaccination are due so double check as other wise blood test will need re doing
