my poor dog...

We adopted an adult dog about a year ago.

We came home today and he'd had an upset tummy (too many treats at training methinks) and we had liquid poo all down the hall. As I stepped in the door, my first reaction was to cry out 'Oh no, what's this'. I turned around and saw poor dog an absolute quivering mess by the door. He was terrified. I felt so bad for him, poor dog. Someone must have punished him very harshly for accidents in the past, poor thing.

Aww poor dog.
My rescued JRT was like that the 1st time he was sick (after chewing a ball and eating a bit!). I guess he was punished at his previous home for it.

PlasticLentilWeaver · 19/02/2011 18:42

My old dog reacted like that. I had her from 8 weeks old, and was never harsh with her. I think it just used to upset her losing control like that.

SecretNutellaFix · 19/02/2011 18:45

It's probably mostly that especially as he's not elderly, but my old girl used to be like that if she ever had an accident. She had been with us since she was a pup, but was so clean she would get embarrassed if she didn't make it in time, especially towards the end.

StataLover · 19/02/2011 18:51

good to know that it's a normal reaction!

How is he now?

StataLover · 19/02/2011 19:25

He's fine although very clingy. Even came in the bathroom while I was giving kids a bath - normally keeps his distance from the bathroom in case it's his turn :)

oh, bless him!

lots of love and reassurance needed there with him, I'm guessing?

spikeycow · 19/02/2011 20:44

Aw poor thing. My boy dog wrecked the living room and kitchen once, ate the bin, the curtains, rubbish everyone. I came in and saw it and he did that laying down, creeping type thing. So I ended up rewarding the little bugger by giving him loads of cuddles

spikeycow · 19/02/2011 20:45

rubbish everywhere

BooyFuckingHoo · 19/02/2011 20:47

Grin@ spikey rewarding the destruction! it is hard not to cuddle them though even when they have been naughty.

Op your poor boy, glad he is with you now and can learn that he wont ever be punished for accidents.

My 6 month old lab puppy may have to have an op for hip dysplasia, depending on results of xray next month. Wonder if my insurance cover of £4000 will be enough. Any tips or advice please?
