Labrador pup & owner working full time

We had a Labrador puppy in The Autumn who is the absolute love of my life Smile He's perfect!
I work 2 full days so he's had lots of walks on my days off but he has been left on his own for up to 4 hrs on my work days (thanks to my dad who pops in at lunchtimes) Now, due to restructuring at work I've got to work full time or lose my job, will my doggy cope? I can't bear the thought of giving him away & the DCs would never forgive me
Advice appreciated!

could you get a dog walker? how long will he be alone? can your dad still pop in a lunch times?

Yes my Dad can still pop in at lunchtimes so he'd be on his own for 4 hrs (ish) Yes i suppose a dog walker is a good idea, I'll ask around locally

Our lab used to like the radio left on when she had to do t,ime on her own. That and a few toys/treats really settled her and she was happy. She got 3 good walks each day which also helped - can you walk her before you leave in the morning?

Our dog is often on his own for 3-4 hours on a weekday, one of us works from home for the morning(not sure if this is an option for you?) and walks him first thing in the morning and at lunchtime, then dog walker comes in the mid/late afternoon. If yours is already OK being left for a few hours, he should be able to adjust to that as his weekday routine. Wouldn't leave him for any longer than that though.

The dog is far to young to be left on his own for such long periods. A walk isn't the same as companionship. What about a dog sitter, where you can drop the dog off and collect, even for half a day. Maybe your dad could help

I agree, mine are only ever on their own for 4 hours as a one-off. On a regular basis it's not fair, especially as you only have one dog. They really need company.

That's one of my big worries- him missing the companionship of me being at home. My Mum & dad feel the same & have now said they'll have him at their house 3days per weekSmilewhich is 10 mins walk away. I'm going to look into having a dog sitter as well. Thanks for all the advice Grin
