Etiquette regarding dog jumping of my dogs back

While out walking in the one place I let my ex racing greyhound off lead I sometimes meet a lady I know with her dog & we might walk together or have a chat. Her dog is young & constantly chases mine & jumps on his back. Mine doesn't like this (although he does like other dogs) he doesn't do rolling around or whatever this dog is wanting him to do. Mine has started to growl at him to get him off but the other dog takes no notice. The lady says 'let them sort it out themselves' but I feel a bit sorry for mine as he is constantly running to get away from him. What is the etiquette here? If I put mine on lead as soon as I see her will she be offended?

Um, bugger being offended. Put him on the lead. Ask her nicely to stop and get her dog off. If she refuses, walk away. Rinse, lather, repeat.

She is showing poor "dog manners" and one day her dog will get bitten for this. It is also potentially harmful to your dog. Greyhound skins are quite thin, and could easily end up with a cut or tear, from this. Also, it could hurt or damage your dog's back. One of our greys has arthritis in her shoulder - this would be excruciating for her and she would have no hesitation in letting the other dog know that. This could also end up with your dog being intimidated and avoiding this breed, or even becoming dog aggressive.

For an excellent explanation of why this is so bad, read "He Just Wants to Say Hi" which sums it up beautifully. See link here
