she has not been eating post op and the only thing I could get her to eat is chicken breast, so it got me thinking.

Anyway I went into the raw food shop near me yesterday and had a really good chat with the owner. she gave me a couple of bits to try. cherry has wolfed down her food this morning.

the meat is complete (has the ground up bones in it already). worjking on the weight guides online she shoulld have a third of a lb bag a day split between 2 meals, it doesnt seem very much and also seems -far to cheap (will cost me about £1 a week to feed her, she is a border terrier and weighs 13lbs.

Also tell me about raw meaty bones, I was going to pop in to the butchers to see if I can get some for free, do you feed these instead of a meal or as a supplement? How many? do they actually eat the bone (I know that sounds stupid) or just scrape them clean?

What about chicken wings? do they actually eat the bones then or just the meat?

anything else you think I need to know?

what are the advantages? what are the disadvantages?

impressed you could get her to sit next to all that meat.
I remember her now, she looks very grown up. got the bone off her no problem, is one of my rules as I remember my childhood dog being aggressive only when he had a bone.

Is the meat you gety the one with ground up bone in then?
Do you feed veg, this is the bit that is really confusing me. The woman in the petshop doesnt and what #I have read said if you feed green tripe occasionally (boak again) then it becomes uneccasary.

har..guess how many takes it got to get her to sit still?

This is the MOST infuriating thing about barf, that everybody does it a little bit differently so there is no definitive guide. i hated that at first but when you get into the swing of it it's fine.

I started out with the complete food with bone in. Then I found a butcher who gave me chicken carcasses and wings for free so those plus the complete food was too much bone for her [constipation] so i switched to minces and chunks and the carcasses.

Sometimes I add blended veg but not for every meal. She certainly loves it, and it helps to 'bulk up' the meals I give her that are very rich, so liver or kidneys, or the pilchards where you have to reduce the amount.

I like with barf that you don't have to give a balnanced meal at EVERY meal so you can spread out what you need to give over a week.

I'm still very much a novice. The britbarf group on yahoo is an endless facinating source of raw feeding top tips and advice.

I did spot the yahoo groups but I have never got the hang of them and I cant remember my yahoo email adress.

I only lurk on it, never quite worked out yet how to post. You do learn loads though, and folk feed their dogs the most amazing things. My sanitary little pouches of mince are terribly tame.

My dog's on BARF - and I can buy 450gm packs of frozen tripe in local Kennelgate store, which he gets with carrots and green veg left overs. Poo is firm and odour-free (unlike the tripe) so a bonus for poo bag duty as well
