'No Pull' Harnesses For Running?

Our not so little pup is old enough to go running now. He loves it. The only problem is he has to stay on the lead for part of the run and is pulling at those times. We were just getting to grip with him walking on a loose lead, so I don't want to undo all that but he has boundless amounts of energy so I want to keep up the running. (Did an hour this morning with my DH and if I hadn't seen them go out and come in I wouldn't have believed he'd been anywhere! Grin )

Would a no pull harness be suitable to use whilst running? I haven't used a harness of any sort before, so have no idea.

Thanks!

No, it'll chafe his pits!

Get him a proper harness, a bungee line and a waist belt and use that pulling power - www.cani-cross.co.uk, www.snowpawstore.com/cani-cross.html

They soon learn that harness = pulling, collar = no pulling. :)

reccomend a proper harness, also a bungie (sp) attachment.
he will soon work being in the harness means runnign and being on his collar means walk to heel.
Just watch his feet if you are runnign on the road we have boots for our dog as his claws get very worn.

The problem being I don't want him to pull at all, nor does DH who is the one doing the running with him.

His feet/claws are fine, he does a mixture or roads, grass and beach.

The other dogs are fine when running as walking on a loose lead was established before they started running, it just seems a shame to have to put the running on hold for now.

If you want him to run alongside on a loose lead Midori I would wait until the loose lead walking is established. It may even be easier to teach it at a fast pace (does depend how fast OH is though!)

I personally would use these they are made to measure and will be safe for the dog whilst running.

They are not to be used if the dog is running in front eg like canix but will be fine for running alongside.

The problem with the harnesses that are non pull are that they will go looser which could be an issue when the dog is running and as mentioned above may cause chaffing or the dog could trip on it so the harness would have to be snug fitting.

Lucky dog!

Thanks Minimu, DH will never be as fast as the dog! Grin

Do you think if he has a harness for running he will differentiate betweenthat and walking on his norml collar and lead?

We are using the 'stop every time he pulls' and 'reward when in the correct position' methods to teach him loose lead walking. He's making huge progress and never pulls hard now, just gets the lead taught when he forgets himself. DH refuses to stop running everytime he pulls though. I can see his point tbh and I appreciate him persisting with taking the doglet running as he was a pain at first and almost tripped him up a few times. Grin

I'll get one of those harnesses anyway.

Our husky know the difference.
DH just used to turn around and keep running in the opposite direction if he pulled when running.
Dog has grasped the concept and uses a very different pace when running with Dh and when running attached to the scooter we have.
This is a dog that was bred to pull and is very stupid so if he can work it out then i am sure your dig will.
