Are 'Kongs' cruel?

Have just bought my 8mth lab a kong and filled it with treats. He managed to get one buscuit out but then has been frantically chewing it with no avail. It must be very frustrating for him. Have I filled it with the wrong sort of treats? How easily should they come out?
It has worked any way as he has just flopped out and fallen asleep but is it fair to let him chew and chew if nothing is going to come out?

Avantia, pet shops sell all sorts of things, there's no guarantee they're good for your dog. Much the same as the fact that chicken nuggets are for sale in Mcdonald's doesn't mean they're a good diet for a child Grin. Ask your vet if you want confirmation that cooked bones are unsafe.

not sure if leaving it with him all night is such a good idea. it sort of diminishes his interest if he has it all the time. better to give it to him when you decdie and remove it when you^ decide playtime is over otherwise you may find he loses interest in it quite quickly. if it is a restricted toy he will be so pleased to see it when you bring it out rather than thinking, "oh that old thing, I've been playing with taht all night, bored with it now". Pet shops also sell "dog chocolate". You'd think that was chocolate with the poisonous bit to dogs removed, wouldn't you?

Nope.

topsi - she is excitable esepcailly in the snow ! I have trained her on recall with the whistle Chewing hasn't been a major problem - we were told to get the bone to ease the chewing , howvever you can make your own mind on that .

I am quite happy with the advice the dog trainer gave me , it has worked for me .
