I have always been allergic to animals (get a bit sneezy and wheezy) but love them, have grown up with them and just ignored it really. I seem to build up a bit of immunity to our own animals. We recently got a gorgeous family puppy and assumed that it would be the same. He seems to be affecting me quite badly though and I have had a really bad wheezing chest since we got him. I have got an inhaler so have been using that and am sure that I have got a cold as well which doesn't help. Anyway I was thinking long term that maybe homeopathy or maybe an anti-histamine injection or something may help. I am really desperate and just wondered if anyone had found anything at all that has helped them with dog allergies. Thank you for your help.

My husband is allergic to our dog, so we use a lotion called petal cleanse. It reduces the dander on the dog. We get it from amazon marketplace, but you can also get it from other places.

Regularly hoover your house, and try to brush your dog outside. No dogs in bedrooms. Try and get an air purifier.

My weekly routine is to bath my dog, brush him outside and then apply petal cleanse. It is not ideal to bath dogs regularly, but for us it helps keep down the dander, and is better than rehoming him. It takes about 3 weeks for this routine to work because there will be lots of dander in your home.

Thank you. I have ordered some petal cleanse and also the room spray so hopefully that will help. I have got an ioniser in the bedroom (although he is not allowed upstairs). I have also found a good web-site with allergy clinics on that treat pet allergies so I will try them next. At the moment he is snoring on the settee and I have gone to bed early......talk about rule the roost !!!

DH is asthmatic and has an allergy to long dog hairs, cats and horses. We have 3 dogs. It is possible to manage but you must be pretty committed. Firstly, remove carpets downstairs and go for tiles or wooden floors that can be easily hoovered and don't trap dust, hairs or dirt. Hoover daily, dust regularly. Wash your own soft furnishings regularly,if possible, on the hottest possible temps, and all dog bedding (we try and do dog bed covers and duvets weekly). Ensure your home is well aired. Groom your dog out of doors, and regularly to encourage shedding outside the home. Basically, guidelines are very similar to those keeping house for asthmatics - minimise harbours for allergens and have a good routine.
