Bella Undescended Testicles help!

Now bet you've been waiting for this tread title for ages!

My little man (obviously dog and not DC) has just had an op to remove his undescended testicles.

Where he has been shaved but near one of the incisions he has a nasty shaving rash which is now weeping and looking very moist. I am off to the vet tomorrow anyway for a post op check up, 5 days after op, but can I put anything on the rash or is it best just to leave it alone?

Got it sorted now - meet vet when just taking dogs out - sudocrem gently placed on area!

glad you got an answer. I would have said just leave it seeing as you are off to the vet tomorrow. But looks like my advice would have been wrong anyway.
Glad the op went well and hope the check up is good too.

Hey hon - fab title [hgrin]

Sorry wasn't here when you needed me - hope he's okay [hwink]

minimu1 · 22/10/2010 08:07

He is looking fine this morning thanks

He keeps throwing himself onto the floor to try to lick but with his comfy collar can't reach but it is a great opportunity to teach a new treat. So out came the clicker and he is now chasing his tail on command! Always a training opportunity Smile

Ha ha - fab! Only you, minimu, only you!!

Can I ask what he is? It's just that you never talk about your own dogs - you're too busy helping all of us with ours [hgrin]

p.s. Am taking BellaUndescendedTesticles as my Hallowe'en name next year [hwink]

Lol at name!

He is a border collie pup - he is 7 months but as he had undescended testicles had to have them removed. His mum was a stray and had the litter of puppies in a rescue centre but she was too malnourished and died after labour Sad

He is an absolute sweety but we are working on his fear of other dogs slowly but surely (I hope!)

Aw - what a very sad story Sad but what a very lucky pup. Doesn't get much better in the doggy world than having minimu as your owner [hgrin]

I wish you much joy with him. Are you planning on doing search & rescue with him?

minimu1 · 22/10/2010 17:07

Not sure yet what "job" to get him doing - I will see how he develops. Of course he will do agility (a must for most of my dogs!) but other than that I will see. At the moment he is showing quite a lot of enjoyment for obedience work so may do that with him. One of my DD's is taking him under her wing and getting him involved in young kennel club events who knows where that may lead!

He is also learning the assistance dog roles just for fun. He can empty the washing machine in a second and drag it to his bed Confused. Great at opening cupboards doors but just like the DC's seems unable to close them- work in progress Smile

Oh wow - he sounds amazing, minimu. You are, as always, a huge inspiration to the rest of us and remind us of what is possible with time, patience and positive reward based training. We just aspire to achieve one tenth of what you do with your lovely dogs.

I was spellbound by the Canine Partners display at Crufts earlier this year - had heard and read about them but it's not until you actually watch a dog empty a washing machine, and talk to the handler about the enormous transformation these dogs bring to people's lives, that it really hits home.

So much potential in each and every dog - if only we humans would learn to tap into it [hsmile]

minimu1 · 22/10/2010 20:29

Rubbish I am no inspiration. I am a grumpy, bad tempered, dreadful at communicating with people dog lady. Grin

However dogs have tremendous potential and the more you ask of them the more they can do. Canine Partner's are fantastic and the way they change peoples lives is great. If you are ever near Midhurst they do a great free demonstration and talk and there is not a dry eye in the house.

It is so much fun getting your dog to help around the house, they love the training and it makes tasks that much more enjoyable if a dog is helping to fill the tumble drier, or pulling off your jacket and hanging up their leads.

As you know positive reward based training has really revolutionised how we train dogs now we are able to communicate with them in their language the sky is the limit. Clever things these dogs just took us a while to get there Smile.

Am afraid you're talking bllcks in your assessment of your own temperament, minimu.

But then you know me - Bella tells it straight [hgrin]
