I was wondering if anyone had any advice?
We have two dogs, one Westie boy and a mixed breed bitch. (Staffie/Collie we think). They have lovely temperaments and in most respects are very well behaved. 95% recall, obedient, polite etc. BUT, they are noghtmares in the car! Individually they are great, put them together they are a pain in the bum. We have a dog boot with a guard, and they start whining as soon as they go in, building up to an ear drum bursting crescendo as soon as we start moving. They will also playfight etc etc.
If we are all going out together we will take them for a quick throw around first so they think that is the exciting bit over and done with, which works for a while. On motorways etc they settle and are fine, but as soon as they see greenery or we slow down it starts again.
Does anyone have any tips on how we could reprogramme them when it comes to the car? I think part of the problem is we don't use the car much, but when we do we tend to go on longish trips. For example we are off to Devon at the end of the month and I am dreading it. The motorway will be ok, but the tripping off round the countryside and beaches will be a nightmare! Especially as we now have a small baby who likes to sleep in the car!
I am going to try 'splitting' the boot down the middle, we will put luggage on one side and am hoping that the reduced space will mean less room to qind themselves up in. They will still have plenty of space to site, lie down etc.
Thanks in advance!
