Curious question for dog experts

Wonder if you can help me with this. I visited my Aunt who has two female Collies and a smaller male dog (not sure of breed) with my 4 week old daughter last week.

The more 'matriarchal' of the two Collies went for me twice (I wasn't holding the baby at the time) by jumping up at me and nipping a number of times, to the point of ripping my jumper. There was a fair amount of barking too.

Apologies if the answer is blatantly obvious as to why but I haven't grown up with pets so know very little about their behaviour.

There was some mention of the dogs being able to smell breastmilk but seems like an extreme reaction.

Any thoughts gratefully received and yes next time we visit the dogs will be kept away!

No nothing to do with breast milk just a badly trained collie who has not been taught manners.

Collies will bark if given the chance and need to be told when it is appropriate to bark also nipping is common collie behaviour if they are not taught otherwise.

I bet if you OH or male friend went to the house they would get the same reaction - although breast milk does sound like a good excuse to me and believe me I have heard many excuses for badly trained dogs!

I think your Aunt needs to work on her meeting and greeting technique with her collie and until she does get her to visit you and leave the dogs at home!
