What's the most exciting interactive dog toy EVER?

Squeaky toys are no longer more exciting than other dogs. Food has never been more exciting than other dogs. I am not more exciting than other dogs, even if I do silly dancing and try and initiate play fight Blush

I'm thinking a tug type toy. He loves tug games. But it must be an extra special tug toy and extra tough. Normal toys last seconds, literally.

Funnily enough we saw a squirrel and a lab at the same time today. The lab was more exciting Hmm. He is not a normal terrier.

I am begining to think he will never be able to walk past another dog calmly. He walks well on his lead now and his recall is improving. When he is on the longline dd1 is far more exciting than other dogs. But when he is walking on his lead nothing beats another dog.

I have ordered him a knobbly bobbly ball on a rope.

He still causing fights by going in all over excited and diving on other dogs heads/backs, funnily enough they much like this.

He is not food orientated at all. He will work for chicken and some sort of meatcake the butcher makes but not when there are other dogs/people/cats/dead leaves/stones/invisible things around.

I'm getting the trainer back at some point this week, hopefully he will have some more suggestions, because teaching him not to pull on the lead towards other dogs is not working.

My ddog can act as if he has never seen another dog before and get stupidly excited. Probably more excited than when he smells roast chicken. Smile

You should be able to turn him onto any sort of tug toy if he likes that sort of thing already. The key element isn't the toy itself - it's the excitement he gets from it and that's largely down to YOU Wink

Keep it moving AWAY from him until he's got it. When he gets hold of it, make it jerk and squirm like a prey animal would. Don't let him have it too easily - he's got to WORK to get his jaws on it. Although some dogs get disheartened if they can't get it often enough; you need to be tuned in to him to see what he likes best. Let him WIN plenty - when he's really tugging, let go. Chances are, as soon as it goes "dead" he'll be back, enticing you to take the other end again.

Squeal and jump about yourself - they can tell if your heart isn't in it. Yes, you will feel a prat.

... oh, and always leave him wanting more. Don't wait until he's had enough. It's well worth a bit of thought and work to get them OBSESSED with their tuggie.

It took a while to get my dog keener on tugging; I spent a couple of weeks shutting her in her room behind a baby gate, and dancing and whooping around the kitchen with her tuggie while she looked on longingly... then letting her join in for a moment before putting it out of reach but still in sight... gradually working up to playing with her on walks with no other distractions etc.

She used to be OBSESSED with other dogs; I mean obsessed. Now, she's really not fussed. I taught her that the appearance of other dogs was a cue to play tuggie/ball, but the key thing is to start with the other dogs waaaay in the distance, so they can see them but they aren't close enough to run over to. Then gradually getting closer. Now, if we're walking and another dog comes on the scene, she automatically turns to me for a game. Took a while but well worth it.
