Long car journey with puppy - tips?

We'll be driving 250 miles at half term, a good 5 hours, mainly motorway. And back two days later. Any tips on how to make this the least unpleasant possible for 4 month old puppy. Obviously we'll have a walk first and stop for wee/stretch breaks. And we'll have a kong or two handy.

We use a crate in boot of hatchback at the mo - she will grow out of it and take over the whole small boot with a dog guard soon. I'd probably keep her in the crate for this journey, or could it be better to let her have the additional space?

She doesn't much like being in the car - whines from time to time. Just useful to know if in your experience it's easy or something to reconsider.

I'd definitely keep her in the crate. For your safety, and hers, and to minimise mess from accidents.

Take a full roll of kitchen roll, some wet wipes, and some carrier bags for mopping up any mess. Take spare towels to use as bedding too, and a flask of water and a bowl. She may well sleep most of the way.

Good idea to cover the crate (with a blanket) - this will help her sleep and also minimise any car sickness.

All of the above and I would consider getting some Serene-Um if she is not really happy in the car. You need to start it a few days before.

Rudy was a terrible traveller but it completely relaxes him and totally goets rid of his car sickness too.

It is worth considering having them on it for the firework season too, I will with mine, one bad experience and they are buggered for life.

Thanks both of you - will do all of above and have a look at Serere-Um too. Not heard of that before.
