I tried the JD food (for free) and afaik, from talking to the nutritionist, it contains some chondroitin and glucosamine and omega oils. All of these can be given as a separate supplement if you don't want to use the JD.

I tried the JD with my 12 year old collie. It cost more than his normal dog food (James Wellbeloved) and it made no difference whatsoever.

There is a thread further down which mentions supplements which can be given for stiffness, so I am going to try those. Someone also mentioned a tin of sardines and an egg once a week which I know he will love!

Hi Pink, it's also really important you keep any excess weight off her, so that her joints don't have to work any harder.

Hi Pink, sorry to hear that.
Do you mind me asking how the dysplacia showed itself and also if you knew the hip scores of her parents?

Sorry, have just got a labradoodle pup of my own and dysplacia is near the top of my nueroses - along with poisoning, traffic accidents, parvo.... I'm a very paranoid dog mum!

I already give her oily fish twice a week, didnt know about the egg, will do that. She is pretty lean, we actually had all her lovely curls cut off when she was diagnosed so we could see properly what her legs and body really looked like. Im pleased to say they are growing back now :)

I think we will try the supplements instead of the JD food, we could always go back to it if need be.

thanks for all your advise

Hip scores of her parents were good, and parentt/siblings seemed very healthy.

At about nine months she suddenly started to limp when she had been in one position for a while, she also seemed to stretch a lot but not stretch out if you know what I mean. We then noticed a slight limp on her back legs. Took her to the vet, x-rayed and diagnosed by the time she was 10 months. I was very upset.

We were given medicine for her and prescribed the Hills JD food and since then she has had one small flare up and nothing else. She has never appeared to be in any pain at all and is still a total loony dog.

Im also a pretty paranoid dog mum!

Would also reccomend fish4dogs completely natural and high in Omega three so good for joint mobility.
