Just one of his hind legs sort of take a while to get going.

Cod liver oil? or something else.

He is 9 year old springer. Completely mad for the rest of the day.

Our dog (11yo GSD/Lab/Newfie cross) gets crushed glucosamine and chondroitin tablets in his food.

Seems to help his back end/hips - if we forget for a few days or run out, he has trouble getting in the car and looks visibly stiffer in the mornings.

Oh and we give him oily fish at least once a week - tinned sardines are always popular. And an egg in his dinner every now and then.

Ladder · 29/09/2010 11:38

oh thanks Queen. Do you get it at the vet or just a good pet store?

Is it the one tablet with both of those ingredients?

How soon did you notice a change?

Sorry for all the questions!

This is quite good:

here

Interestingly, I had a chat with a Hills nutritionist recently when I got chosen to try their new joint care food, and she told me that there was more evidence to back up the use of omega oils for joints than there is for chondroitin and glucosamine.

Didn't find the Hills food any good, but I did start giving my old dog the stuff above.

thanks Bella. That looks good, i wonder if there is a larger size bottle somewhere on internet because that would only be 11 days worth and I do have 3 dogs of similar age, so was thinking of giving it to all of them. which would last about 3 days!

will have a surf.

used to give my Springer This mixed with his food

vjg13 · 29/09/2010 12:16

I give this to my 8 year old lurcher and it seems to help and also the fish4dogs salmon oil.

DooinMeSizers · 29/09/2010 12:19

The vet told my Dad to use Glucosamine for his Akita. He also gets omega treats (curteosy of me Smile) So I am not sure which has worked, but one certainly did. He is/was really bad though, so is not cured, but can move much more easily.

Lizcat · 29/09/2010 13:25

Dogs are slightly different to humans and so you need to make sure that it is glucosamine hydrochloride so it is bioavaliable for dogs.

Ladder · 29/09/2010 13:48

thanks all, will look more into all of the above.

We use Synoquin for ours, as recommended by our vet, and ensure they eat oily fish/eggs regularly too.
