WWYD? Barking dog

I did a long post and it vanished so will try again, sorry in advance if two threads pop up!

Next door have got a dog, they have had it 16 days and it has barked day and night since it arrived.
At first I thought (hoped) they were dog sitting but as I say it has been 16 days.

I have not seen the dog to know what type or how old it is, but the barking sounds more dog then small puppy.

They take it upstairs at night and it barks and barks and barks.

A friend who runs a pet shop said it sounds unhappy as most dogs would have settled by now Sad

Now the chap that lives next door is out all day and his mother is old and not good on her feet, and this is the bit that is worrying my I have not yet seen the dog be taken for a walk, it is let out in to the garden but the garden is not big and so the poor thing is not getting much exorcise.
Should I offer my teenager as a dog walker?
Yes the barking is a pain in the arse but I am more worried about the dog then the noise?

Would a new dog take this long to settle? Should I offer to walk it? WWYD?

Aren't you a darling! :)

As long as you think that your teenager will be safe and not get a mouthful from the neighbour in return for his/her kindness, that would be a lovely idea.

A dog barking that much doesn't sound like a happy one to me either. He may be bored, he may be anxious but whatever the reason it's not fun for you having to live next door to it. I'm like you, my worry would be more for his welfare, so if you can get to find out more about him and help - perhaps give some advice to the owners - I think it may help a lot.

Can't really make any guesses about him without such background details but if you get to meet him and chat to the owners you will surely be better placed to make suggestions which will make everyone's lives easier. I'm sure those on here will help if you are stuck for answers, I'll certainly do my best too.

could it be a puppy that's too young to go out?

Great idea. If it doesn't help, or you are still worried about the dog, please do call the Dog Warden and start keeping a diary of the noise. Have any of your other neighbours indicated a problem with it? As others have/will say, calling the RSPCA is generally a waste of time, unless you have a camera crew in tow.
