I know, I know, another dog thread. Yawn. But all these anti dog threads are making my head hurt!

Seriously the utter nonsense that is being spouted on them by some is actually making my head hurt.

So I thought I'd start a nice thread about them showing just how amazing a well trained pooch can be....

Look.....

or every 'bad' dog out there, there are plenty more amazing ones.

But no doubt this thread will also be used to rant about how all dogs should be banned/muzzled/burnt alive etc. I doubt the people on these links would agree.

So glad to see this thread!

The great 'working dogs' of the world are always overlooked in these silly anti dog debates.

Imagine all guides dog and independance dogs muzzled whenever out....because even though they're well trained, they could rip someones face off any minute!!! Hmm

Even our humble 'non working' pet dogs, acheive great things that never get mentioned.

Animal lovers are so much nicer than uptight, anti everything, Daily Mail readers Wink

oh riven that is so sad. your poor family and the poor dog being taken away from her family. she must have been so scared. i don't know how your mum could do that.

shiny that's great, just googled fox terrier to see what they look like, if he is like the photos then he must be gorgeous Smile. i used to own a harrier X and he was very scent oriented. obedience classes were a joke with him, there was always a far more interesting scent than the cheese i had in my hand Grin. i am hoping WB will be true to his breed's reputation and be tummy oriented for training!!

I do wish we could have a dogsnet topic rather than being lumped in pets. In fact I'm going over to site stuff to request it right now.

I actually think my dog has averted any mental health problems I may have been brewing. He's a super dog.

ShinyAndNew · 05/09/2010 20:49

I've put a pic on my profile of him. Training classes were a joke. We are just back from them. He wasn't allowed to join in the first bit because he went hyper and had to be sent to calm down Blush He then spent the rest of the session ignoring me completely Hmm. And ignoring the hotdogs, which were previously the only food he would work for.

They said give him three weeks to settle in and see how he goes.

It seemed to be a bit pack theory orientated, but they didn't rough house him and what they did worked. I have never seem him walk like he did for the trainer before. They recommended a half check collar for teaching him how to walk on the lead without pulling, which I am slightly Hmm at. They wanted a halti on him at first, but he managed to get it off Hmm and the snarled when they tried to get it back on Blush. They said he was clearly very anxious and putting the halti back on him would only wind him up further.

But as I say, it worked and this is the only training class anywhere near me. It didn't seem to hurt him. He looked like he was loving walking with the trainer when he got the hang of it.

He is very gorgeous. He does look like a "bloody bugger" at training which is how my gorgeous pup was referred to Shock

booyhoo · 05/09/2010 21:06

Oh shiny he is even better than he google dogs, he is gorgeous, i could just scruffle him all day (scruffle as in scratch behind his ears and make baby noises in his face Blush)!!very surprised thwy recommended the half check collar. my local club doesn't allow them but then i suppose some have different rules. is this training for his good citizen award? i have just been looking into puppy class for WB but the next one starts tomorrow and we have only had first set of jabs. don't think he will be allowed to join. will ring them anyway.

booyhoo · 05/09/2010 21:11

also, is he exhausted after the class? i always remember micks flaking out on the way home.

ShinyAndNew · 05/09/2010 21:12

No. There are no classes within reach of me that do those. Or at least not ones who return phone messages/answer the phone or reply to emails. But I'm going to continue trying them and in the meantime carry on with this class because something needs to be done with him.

Yes he is. He has gone to sleep on the landing.

bless him, well at least you are taking him to a class. he doesn't know that he wont get a cerificate at the end of it Grin. if print off the assesment requirements for the bronze award you can work to that at home and then if you do get him onto a KC good citizen course you will be well prepped for it and he will know what is expected and so pass with flying colours Wink

fruitshootsandheaves · 05/09/2010 21:22

We had a terrier in our class last week. I defy any dog to be quite as bad as it was.
My spaniel looked completely gobsmacked lol.

We do the good citizens things. I'd like to boast that my collie passed her gold, unfortunately it didn't make her any nicer to other dogs! She gave up with obedience after passing that and now works sheep instead!

booyhoo · 05/09/2010 21:29

there was a terrier in ours aswell, although i can remember his breed name but would recognise it if i saw it. he was awful, he peed against his owner, very stubborn little dog. did absolutley nothing that was asked of him. trainer was very frustrated with the owner though as she didn't seem to know hat it was a dog she owned, not a switch on and off toy. she wasn't doing any training at home and then wondered why he didn't behave in class. unfortunately she left before the course was finished. dread to think of the havoc that little dog is causing. he deserved to be trained properly.

booyhoo · 05/09/2010 21:30

can't remember his breed

EdgarAllInPink · 05/09/2010 21:57

yep, my doggy is a lovely creature...

beautiful and a true and loyal friend.

when i read ani-dog threads, i comfort myself with the thought that dog owners live longer....
