How much do you spend per weekend?

Just out of curiosity really.

What do you spend on just general weekend fun.

Days out, restaurants, takeaways, extra treat food, that kinda thing.

I think we usually spend around £100

Quite excessive really. Nothing is cheap anymore.

Oh far too much, probably 150e-200e

CosyNavyLeader · 13/07/2025 19:01

Crazy isn't it. But if thats the only downtime you have, I guess you gotta make the most of it. Otherwise what is the point in working. You only live once and all that.

Poopeepoopee · 13/07/2025 19:04

I'm guessing about £500 extra gets spent every week-end.

But surely thats what the week end is for? No point working all week and scimping and saving at the weekend.

andanotherproblem · 13/07/2025 19:07

I budget £100 per week ‘free money’, usually go over a bit though, could definitely spend more easily

CosyNavyLeader · 13/07/2025 19:08

I agree. Although I feel much better about our £100 compared to your £500 🤣

Can I ask what you spend that much on!? @Poopeepoopee

AssemblyPoint · 13/07/2025 19:11

I’d say about £100 too. We’re often out doing an outdoor free activity but like to buy a picnic and a take away coffee, maybe a cake. Parking is extortionate where I live too.

Alwaystired2023 · 13/07/2025 19:13

I think 150-250... by the time we've eaten out probably twice, a breakfast one day, a lunch the next, some coffees and ice creams over the weekend, top up shop for cooking or a takeaway, bits needed for children

Friday I went for dinner, Saturday night shopping, this weekend was at least 400£

minnienono · 13/07/2025 19:14

Depends, this weekend probably £300 but had gig tickets in a different town, other weeks maybe £60-70. We don’t buy takeaway apart from fish and chips which we take into the pub next door (so like eating out, it’s a great arrangement), and can usually walk to whatever we are doing

CosyNavyLeader · 13/07/2025 19:15

We're usually happy to just do a free outdoor activity too. It's the eating out/takeaways that add up.

Overthebow · 13/07/2025 19:17

It’s different every weekend, this weekend we actually spent nothing other than some food that we wanted from the supermarket. Next weekend we’ll be spending around £200 on activities and a meal out.

Poopeepoopee · 13/07/2025 19:20

Mainly food - I refuse to cook anything at the week-end otherwise It's not a break for me.

Add in petrol, parking, entry fees, drinks, etc etc. It mounts up quickly.

Alwaystired2023 · 13/07/2025 19:35

Oh yes we are always doing free things - even just a walk or to the park - why is life so expensive

CosyNavyLeader · 13/07/2025 19:47

Definitely agree with refusing to cook!

This weekend: £32, on rep type theatre tickets, £17 on an uber, £15 on drinks, £20? on fares £74. Some weekends it could be much more if we go to the opera for example, or if we have all the family over for the weekend and some weekends we might just potter.

TheChosenTwo · 13/07/2025 19:57

This weekend I’d say about £400ish. We went out for dinner on Friday night, £200. Yesterday went to a family afternoon/evening thing, £150ish for the tickets then bbq stuff in the afternoon, drinks, donations for things. I bought a takeaway for dh and the dc when we got home (£60) but made myself some eggs, mushrooms and beans. Today I went for a swim (£8) and bought breakfast (£8) there to eat in the sun. Then went for a walk this afternoon along the canal and we all had ice creams which were about a tenner.
Quite a typical weekend of spending for us I’d say, maybe not every weekend, we do sometimes just go out for a brunch or something and then a walk and pub stop
on a Sunday. But it’s not out of the ordinary to have a more spendy weekend.

CosyNavyLeader · 14/07/2025 11:09

Interesting replies!

Our weekend extra spends consisted of:

Saturday night- Pimm's and beer, nibbles £30
Sunday- Indian takeaway £65
Monday- brunch £21 (husband works Saturdays and has Mondays off)
Weekend ice creams- £10

I feel this is a pretty average weekend for us.

This weekend we've spent about £70. We went to the cinema today. Yesterday I bought a kindle book and DH got himself something from Gregg's for a couple quid. I got £1 drink from a vending machine.

My kids do an activity on Saturday mornings that's paid for monthly so you could add that. Around £15.

I do my food shopping on Saturdays but that's not "weekend spending". Saturdays we get stuff done around the house, run errands, do homework, sometimes go to the library or meet up with friends for a walk. Sunday mornings are slow - I made brunch at home. Sometimes we go for a trek. We are lucky that we can walk to the beach from home.

OstaraSpring · 04/01/2026 19:40

Such an interesting POV for a thread! I’ve never really considered our weekend spending as separate from day to day, but as a pp said, weekends are for living! Slightly different weekend as it’s end of holidays here but did spend a spur of the moment £35 on outside mini golf today as we wanted to enjoy the crispy sun but couldn’t convince the dcs to go on yet another walk. I’m going to give this some more thought… is our main spending done at weekends 🤔

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 04/01/2026 19:41

around £40/£50 if we get a takeaway otherwise jus usual grocery shopping

newmenewwhatever · 04/01/2026 19:42

I’ve actually spent nothing this weekend.
ive been out for walks and with my camera.
i do have some things in an online basket but I haven’t purchased them yet

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 04/01/2026 19:49

This weekend £36 on a meal out, otherwise just normal food shopping and a couple of bits on the sales.

CharnwoodFire · 04/01/2026 19:58

We spend a lotttt more on the weekend.

As pp said, the odd lunch or coffee stop can easily add up to £80+.

Add in petrol - to drive to interesting outdoor activities - £20.

There is always something else to buy that we didn't have time to organise/pay for during the week - eg £20 for window cleaner, or a top up of heating oil (more like £300 🫠).

Then, we'll no doubt buy one or two 'one off' items, which can easily be £300- eg. A second hand piece of furniture, large garden plants, or some DIY item like wood etc

moltac · 04/01/2026 20:12

It really depends. Mostly I make nice food at home (from our weekly shopping budget) and we watch a film, play games or read (at home) We go to the gym and DH plays golf which is out of a monthly / annual budget. We sometimes go for a walk somewhere and depending how far away we are we might get a hot drink and share a cake or have lunch which would be between £10 and £30 but not that often. We get takeaway once ever couple of months which is about £40. If we visit family we will buy or make cake or biscuits to take which will probably cost a few pounds. If we host family again I'll make the food myself and that will come out of the weekly food shop.

If we go out to the Cinema it's usually during the week and so we pay between £0 (I sometimes get vouchers) and £20.

I personally don't enjoy shopping much so I don't really do that unless I have to or I have an afternoon to myself to mooch round some second hand book shops (the only shopping I do like).

I don't think we spend as much as others seem to but we do buy really good quality food and we have a lovely life, we have more money to spend but we just don't want to do those things.

mamaduckbone · 04/01/2026 21:13

It really varies, but probably about £80-£100 on average - this weekend £70 on tickets to a rugby match but otherwise not much. Hot chocolates at the rugby £7, parking £6, nothing that I would class a weekend spend yesterday - just a couple of bits of shopping that needed doing.

Next weekend will be more as we’re at the theatre on Friday evening and will get something to eat, so that’s £200 easily if you include the tickets.

We definitely don’t eat out or get takeaway every weekend and the pp who spends £500 every weekend has blown my mind a little, but then if I had it, I probably would too.
