Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

LegoHouse274 · 07/03/2025 11:08

Thank you, that was just what I needed! Will probably be back again in the wee hours!

sashh · 07/03/2025 11:44

Feel free to let yourself in if no one is about. Just give F and F your order. DO not let Leo near your baby, he will either put put her/him through the dog wash or for a trip tot he petting zoo.

Morning.

<Sets up a comfy chair with pillows and and a side table with chilled water and a flask of peppermint tea>

Well it seems to be getting more spring like weather-wise so Leo is brining the petting zoo animals out for the day. It's still a bit muddy so make use of the spare wellies and outdoor heating.

Now to breakfast, just in case you want to visit the animals I think we need food you can eat with your hands so Jaffles (or toasties for anyone outside Oz).

The usual cheese and ham, but also eggs, spiced Mediterranean minced lamb, banana and honey, sausage and baked beans.

Florence is making cinnamon swirls and Fernando is making glühwein.

Now that sounds fun … I will give the animals some treats and i’ll take a pillow and watch the sun rise

Thank you

sashh · 08/03/2025 05:20

Have fun @ImDoneOnceAndForAll

Ots a bit dull here but surprisingly warm so I will make the most of it and while Leo has got all the animals out I will give their pens / houses a good clean.

( irl I will be jet washing my back yard when its a more socially acceptable hour)

@sashh please can I have a ham and cheese toasty ,a cinnamon swirl and gulhwein.
Have you ever tried iced gulhwein? I know someone that had some left over from Christmas ( left over alcohol 🤔 doesn't compute ) so they put the bottle in the freezer for a bit and drank it poured over a glass full of ice.
I know some strange people !

@ImDoneOnceAndForAll
If you put a tiny bit of honey on your finger the kitten bees will sit on your hand and lick it off . They warm and soft fur tickles.

sashh · 08/03/2025 09:17

Iced glühwein? What? But it won't be gluh then will it?

No problem with everything else.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 08/03/2025 10:38

Nope , but then they also drink iced tea as in PG Tips brewed the normal way with milk and sugar and the poured over ice . Like I said , strange people, but each to their own I guess.

Thankyou for the toasty , swirl and HOT gulhwein.

Morning.

Well the animals had a good old roll around in the mud day so Leo is washing them all, I've put the kitten bees inside so they should be safe.

But as it is bright and the animals are out I'm going to do breakfast sandwiches so pick your bread and your filling. I'll also make a kedgeree to keep out the cold and I can do that s a pack up.

Florence is baking various breads for the sandwiches and Fernando is making fruit soothies with a bit of grated ginger to give it a bit of heat.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 09/03/2025 02:29

Oooh, A fruit smoothie sounds lovely

LegoHouse274 · 09/03/2025 03:27

Morning, I'd love a smoothie please - whilst I breastfeed the baby yet again!

sashh · 09/03/2025 04:29

Morning @LegoHouse274 I'll bring it over, I put some cushions on the chair and there is some iced water as well the smoothie over. There is a Moses basket if baby wants to sleep.

@ImDoneOnceAndForAll your smoothie is here, banana and peanut butter, is that OK?

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 09/03/2025 12:33

Can I have a roast beef and horse raddish on crusty bloomer and carrot, mango and ginger smoothie please @sashh

Kedgeree for later would be really nice too.

@LegoHouse274 , I hope baby settled well.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 09/03/2025 16:06

Morning/

In this café all the food has no calories, allergies and intolerances disappear and if you have to work / breast feed / drive the alcohol has no effect.

Well the weather seems a little bit more spring like, Leo has washed and attempted to dry all the animals so they are out in the field.

The ice rink is truly melted and reformed into a toddler friendly water feature.

@LegoHouse274 there is a comfy chair outside, near a heater and with a parasol.

As it is nice weather I think I'll get Florence to make bagels, I'll put smoked salmon and cream cheese on and toast some others.

Fernando is making coffees, hot and chilled, with syrup if you like.

OP posts:
ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 10/03/2025 02:57

Ooh i’ll have a coffee please

Its beautiful weather at the moment but going to be -2 here next week…

So dont get rid of the blankets near the fire just yet

sashh · 10/03/2025 03:47

One coffee, would you like some hazelnut syrup?

OP posts:
ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 10/03/2025 04:56

No thank you… Other half loves the stuff tho

ScottBakula · 10/03/2025 05:13

Good morning all, I have got a couple of days off work but forgot to turn my alarm off 😖 .

It's been a really nice weekend weather wise here , I hope the next few days are warm too.

@sashh can I have a salmon and cheese bagel with a bit of spring onion and a coffee.

I agree with you @ImDoneOnceAndForAll syrup doesn't belong in coffee.
I like mine strong black and no sugar or as my Db put it naked .

sashh · 10/03/2025 05:30

One bagel on its way, I tend to drink black coffee but occasionally I do like a bit of hazelnut.

OP posts:
sashh · 11/03/2025 02:54

Morning.

I think the kittenbees are a little bored so I'm going to serve cereals, they can fly them to the bowls one cornflake at a time.

Florence is baking tiger bread for thick crunchy toast, Leo is poaching eggs to go on the toast and Fernando is making sangria.

OP posts:
ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 11/03/2025 03:21

Oooh Thick toast with eggs and the kittenbees helping out

Picturing that is just what i need

Thank you

LegoHouse274 · 11/03/2025 03:26

Morning! Poached eggs on tiger bread sounds lush right now, not long woke to feed the baby and I'm really hungry as per! Do you have brown sauce?

Also cannot remember the last time I had sangria so will happily enjoy one now please!

My older two children (6 and 3) have been generally sleeping through the past few weeks, but if they wake sometime I will have to bring them to the cafe too. Im sure they'd love the sight of kittenbees flying cornflakes into bowls! And the dog wash too, although the younger one is a little bit nervy around dogs.
